No Improvements with SRI?

I am hearing alot of talk there SRI do not improve performance much (in fact reduce at low RPMs). Will putting in something like KN cone air filter improve performance by a bit?

Nothing wrong with the stock intake. There is some power to be made, but frankly I would just get some drop ins.

perhaps IDK i was curious if the HP gains would even be 5hp? also does it really improve throttle response cuz that what I really care about

The G37 has a very well designed Air intake system. Although there are some improvements to be made, the stock intake was designed to disperse the airflow over the MAF properly. Although some intakes like the stillen Gen 3 add horsepower I would be concerned about running a little lean without a tune.

I really don't think that you would notice any seat of the pants gains from either the drop in's or the CAI. I am not saying they don't work, but the air intake on the G37 is similar to that on the GTR which is running twin turbos. There are several 600 WHP GTR's running around with a stock intake track.

This is why i say get drop in's they are much less expensive and they increase some airflow since the stock filters can be restrictive. Many top tuners say the biggest bottle neck on this car is the stock cats and to me that's where I would start.

Don't even get drop-in filters.
Cobb and many other people have already confirmed that HKS drop in filters alone lean out the fuel curve.

Stock intakes or Stillen G3.

more info on the HKS filters causing leaning?

I wouldnt think these filters would alter the readings that much. Still wondering if cobb's post maf hoses are beneficial.

Even though they tested on a EVO, I expect similar effects after all.
Hey Y'all,

We tested the HKS drop-in filter today on our Evo X GSR. The drop in filter alone leans out the fuel curve an average of 0.5 AFR points across the board during a WOT pull. That's a pretty significant change to the point where we may need to create a map to bring the AFRs back where we want them.

When I get back from Holiday on Monday, I will talk with the tuners. For now I still have to say the filter may be unsafe to run with our mapping.

FYI, the power curves were almost identical between stock and the HKS filter. There was a small gain above 6500 RPM.

Happy Holidays!

Rob

hmmm interesting. Thank you.

i know they are all about a/f and proper air intake so maybe they are right. Maybe they have something with just the post MAF hoses...
