They use Toyota synthetic but I'm still not sold there oil is any better than any of the top brands such a Castrol(german), Redline, Amsoil, Motul

Dealership oil is more inline with Mobil 1 and they tend to shear quick.

Well, I'll just go by with what the dealership recommends.

If you paid for maintenance in advance, the dealer is probably trying to save money by changing your oil as infrequently as possible. I'd definitely take the dealer's "break-in oil" explanation with a grain of salt.

Per the owners manual, the first oil change comes at 3750mi, and every 3750 miles after that. That is what i would demand if they are giving you free oil changes for your first two years.

Every 5k miles or every 6 months here.

Since the Car has been sitting on the lot for over 6 months, you think that would count? lol

If the new owners manuals are saying 5k, go with that. Won't hurt anything. I wouldn't expect free oil changes any sooner than the factory service interval

I have no problem doing it every 5k miles. I just thought the first oil change should be done after the break-in at 1200 miles or so.

When I bought my G35, it was done at 1200 miles and for free. No question asked. I guess something changed to where it's no longer needed or required.

Oil "tech" has improved drastically. You don't have to do oil changes nearly as often as you used to. Some cars have a computer that calculates oil life % and the dealer won't change the oil before the designated number. My wife's Accord gets down to 10% before they will take it. It has had one oil change in the 2 years we have had the car...granted there is not a whole of of driving being done. Her commute is stupid close to the house. Me on the other hand, I have about a 30 mile commute both ways and I have changed mine twice. Both times the mechanic said the oil looked good and could easily go to 10K miles but he prefers to change it at 5k. Bottom line go with what you are comfortable with, but in all honesty every 1k or 1.5K is ridiculous. That will get expensive real quick and you are throwing out still useable oil

Modern engines don't shed nearly as much material during break in. The oil filter will take care of it.
