First oil change must be done after you reach 5k miles?

Just got back from the dealership to do my first oil change at 1,300 miles. But they said it was too early.

Something about break-in oil must be left until you hit 5k miles?

I really don't know if your car was factory filled with "break in" oil. My gut tells me "no". Why not split the difference and have your first oil change done at 3750 miles?

This is all subjective. If it gives you piece of mind then do it at 1K like myself.

Exactly. Without oil analysis, it's guesswork.

They won't do it until 5k miles.

Guess you're a dealership fanboy. Why not go elsewhere and put some good oil in the VQ?

Ask another dealer. I'm curious about the break-in oil.

Funny thing if you ask people they will swear by breaking it in by the manual. I drove my car like I stole it from day 1 and at 1,000 miles, there was a bit of metal shavings in the oil filter.

Well, they threw in the 2+ years oil change in my lease deal. Might as well take advantage of it.

If it's a lease then who cares? Just do the oil changes when they say and don't worry about it.

Well, I'm planning to buy it out. Lease it because of the tax write-off. And if I buy it out later, that's a huge discount at the end.

Is it a discount? I don't think you are saving as much money buying out the lease than if you would have just bought the car.

But to each their own. Just go do an oil change yourself if it's bothering you. The drain plug and filter are very easy to reach when you jack up the front of the car.

If that's the case I would recommend you do an oil change. They don't actually change your oil at 5k but just check. Toyota does this BS too and does only a check at 5k and does 10k OCI which is crazy IMO.

Does Toyota do 10,000-mile oil changes with conventional oil? If so, I'd expect a lot of sludge to form over time.

Yes it's a discount. Half of my payments is written off for taxes.
