Third, did anybody else notice that there were aftermarket coilovers on the concept? Obviously that won't make the production version, but it was interesting to see that they achieve a lowered stance on car the exact same way as lost of us do.

A little fluffy for my taste, but all would be forgiven if they offer a manual. If they do, this will be my next car. If not, well...

After a quick skim, I didn't catch any mention of transmission offerings. Whether that be 7/8 speed dual clutch, torque converter auto, manual, etc. Did I miss it?

 

the body from the shoulders and haunches downward look very chunky like the gtr. i like the look of the car for the most part. the only thing i really don't like is the little nubbin on the front center of the hood.

However, if they don't offer it in a manual, which I think they will, I can cross it off my list.

 

SO effin' excited. if the 400hp TT motor REALLY does make it into production, this will indeed be a badass budget GT-R... I would strongly consider this, manual or not.

 

The engine in the Q80 concept is a 3.0l TT as well. Rated at 450 HP and another 100 HP from the hybrid system. Now unless Infiniti has 2 separate 3.0l TT engines in development, it's fairly safe to say that this is the same engine and we have an idea of potential output, +/- a few HP for intake, exhausted, and marketing variances.

Not shabby. Throw a good dual clutch gearbox in it and I don't give a crap whether it offers a manual transmission or not.

 

I would agree. However, Twin Turboed with a dual clutch transmission, and we're adding quite a bit of cost into the factor.

Might even be encroaching used GT-R price territory. And I would rather have a used GT-R for $60K.

 

Agreed. Making a TT/DCT Coupe starting around what... $50k USD? $55k?

If that's the case, it seems more likely Infiniti will finally be offering two drive-train options in the Coupe, and one at a hefty premium over the other. Why not? They did it with the M. Although isn't it an awkward proposition they'd have two different transmissions? If they start using a DCT, wouldn't they use it in both engine configurations? Ditto on the 6MT.

Maybe a mid-model refresh of the Q50 will have a DCT to match the new Coupe?

Infiniti seems to be making an effort to distance themselves more from Nissan. If they put the stuff in it that we all covet and therefore have to price it closer to a 4 series than a Z I'm fine with that. Sounds like they're trying to build an actual $55-60K car rather than put a few extra gadgets in a 370Z and slap a Mt. Fuji emblem on the back and keep the price of entry low.

As has been discussed here ad nauseum over the years, their target market isn't most of the people you'll find in this forum. They want older buyers who earn more money than most folks here. To do that they need to have higher performance (without having to dump an extra $20K in aftermarket power and suspension upgrades) and more refinement. That costs money.

 

Welp, really starting to look like this car is going to be well above 50k fully loaded. Might just start shopping for this year's q60.

 

Turbod v6 and it looks like that? 45k starting price anyone? Please offer a true manual infiniti.

 

and about the AT version...if it's not a dual clutch, then they would still be behind the rest of the luxury brands.

The VQ37 is a great engine, but the AT transmission kills some if its true potential. With a decent dual clutch AT, it would have been so much better.
