Snap, Crackle, Pop Sound ??

Hey guys,
I have this snap crackle pop sound coming from the engine. It does this as the car is at a stop and idling and when shut off. I bought the 37 used with 18000 miles on it, and never bought used before, so everything will freak me out.

I just dont know if this is a normal sound or not. I drive 5 miles from house to work, and once i get to work and park it (still idling), i noticed the crackling today...

any info is appreciated !

Mine (08 6MT, just picked up a few weeks back) crackles like crazy at the back after shut down and I hear it while idling at intersections. The muffler seems to run very hot on this car too. No worries though.

Cool... from what i hear its normal or it could be some type of oil issue (nissan forums). Get back to us and let us know either way.

Ill be making an apt at Infiniti soon for an oil change so ill run it by them then and see what they say.

I had the same sound. Turns out rocks got caught in the gap between the cats and the heatshield. I had my dealer take some out (he wasn't happy about it) and one of the members on here recommended jacking up the car and using a rubber mallet to lightly tap on the cats to get them out of there.

The more i read into it and listened to the car, its coming from the middle of the car and exhaust system. I read on a few Nissan forums that in 08+ Nissan and Infiniti started using a thicker metal for their exhausts to cut down on rust and the noises im hearing are from the metals contracting from heat.

Took my car in yesterday for oil change and had them check a few things on the vehicle including the "snap, crackle, pop." After checking what the sound was, my service advisor told me it was the heat shield that made the noise and that is normal for that to happen.
