When I was talking to an Infiniti marketing rep about the possibility of a G56, he thought it was a good idea and asked what price I'd expect to pay for one. I said "about $60k since it would have to play in the same league as the M3, C63, IS-F and CTS-V". He said it was "interesting feedback" and that he would take it back to the product people. My feeling is that they've already thought about it but are likely trying to figure out if the market is ready for Infiniti to move up stream and are willing to pay for a more expensive G.

Considering it's about to come to fruition, kudos to the OP for mentioning a G25 4 years ahead of time. Unfortunately, he probably already picked up a IS 250. That's Infiniti's loss, but better late than never.

IPL is not meant to be the equivalent of Mercedes-Benz AMG or BMW M, telling us "Listen, we could have developed a new G Coupe with our 5.0-liter or the 5.6 [V8]. But at what cost? Sure, it would have been a halo performance vehicle, but traditionally those don't sell well." In other words, we all need to remember that the auto business remains a for-profit enterprise.

Here's what the head of IPL said about that:

Good post John!!! That clears it up. This should be in the IPL thread also. Clearly Infiniti has money making plans and not performance plans for the IPL line.
