FWIW, check out the threads @iCrap is involved in re: unlocking the NAV hard drive and GT-R mode, along with signalling to same. Y'all should work together rather than reinventing the wheel.

Well... I have good news for you.
We have been chatting about this for a few months and @iCrap has been very helpful!

I have just purchased my third NAV AV unit as I bricked the second one while re-programming it via the OBD port.
It should arrive in the next week and I hope to be able to dedicate some time to this project and get some progress!

Yeah, we have been chatting. I really haven't come back to this project in a few months now since I've been caught up with other life things. My last few posts are where I pretty much left it.

But, today it was nice out so I did throw my modified 09 headunit (SSD with 2010 GT-R image) into the car, to see what would happen, and now I have negative progress lol. Where previously I had the unit configured to default to the MFD screen on each bootup, now it did it literally ONE TIME, and every bootup thereafter just goes to the status screen. Everything else works, it just acts like a regular G head unit. I have to hookup console access in the car now and go from there.

Just so I understand, the end goal is to have an OEM unit hacked to show the GT-R gauge screens? Tell me how I can help.

Yeah that was my goal. I have more details posted in the other thread with pics and progress. But here is the short version:

Basically I already have it working outside the car (on the bench setup). I can type in a command and bring the GT-R MFD up on the screen, easy enough. I also was able to set it to bring that display up on bootup each time.

Problems:
- When I put the modified headunit into my car, it booted up like a normal G unit (It would not boot to the MFD where previously it would EVERY TIME)
- The only way to currently get back into that screen is by putting the unit into TEST mode and sending the console command
- We had a GT-R owner sniff the AV-CAN while pressing the FUNCTION button on his GT-R (this is the button that brings up the MFD) But, when sending this command to my units it's ignored.
  • Possible theory on this - The headunit and button panel negotiate on startup and only the proper button presses for the panel will work, the rest are ignored. Solution? I don't know.

The next step for me is to hookup the serial access in the car and get back into the menu and see what happens.

Could it be possible that the gtr button works like the cruise control(resisted signals)?

It doesn't. that entire panel communicates over AV-CAN. We can see that also from the datalog from the GT-R. I think the only hope at this point would be to reprogram the G radio panel to identify as a GT-R.
