TL;DR
With out thinking of cost or difficulty of install, if you could have any gauge(s) in your car, what would you like it to be:
Engine oil pressure
Engine oil temperature
Fuel pressure
Ethanol content
Engine coolant temp (to the degree not dots)
Differential oil temp
suggest smoothing else!
I guess I have been reading too many post about failing galley gaskets and it got me a little worried. I wanted an oil pressure gauge.
Last year for another project, I had installed an oil pressure sensor in the factory location, so I only needed to do the electrical/wiring part to a gauge.
For those that haven't wired in a gauge, it is not a quick job to get a few wires from the engine bay to the interior. The battery box / windshield cowl needs to be mostly removed and on the inside the glove box needs to be removed.
That got me thinking about developing a wireless gauge module and an app that displays the data in realtime on your phone.
Sooooo.... after a month of development, I now have the first prototype of functional "gauges" on my iPhone using Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth module will sit in the engine bay and is powered by a ground and ignition connection.
(right now the module sits on the passenger floor for easy re-programming and voltage checks)
The pressure and/or temperature sensors are wired directly to the module.
Everything will be under the hood... super easy install!
The current version supports up to 8 analog inputs.
My test setup uses a 100 psi sensor in CJM Motorsport's fuel tap, a 150 psi sensor in the engine block and a re-purposed Sentra coolant sensor in the manual transmission and differential to get oil temps.
I have been testing this setup for the last week and overall it works very well. No app crashes or garbled data!! BUT it is a bit of a pain to start the app every time you start the car...
So... I have started looking into a small dash mounted display that would automatically connect and show the live data.
My main reason for doing this was just for my own peace of mind...
BUT is this something that interests you?
Interested!
Will the app be able to grab info from both the bluetooth module in the engine bay and the OBD2 port?
That's a good question.... which I don't know the answer to.
I am very new to iOS programming and will need to understand how to receive data from 2 bluetooth devices (Bluetooth sensor module & ELM327) in a single app, assuming that it is possible. (Can anyone confirm or give pointers??)
For now, the main goal is to have a gauge/display for engine oil temperature and pressure just for peace of mind.
Hopefully an IOS developer or another tech guy on the boards can chime in.
Still a really cool project that I'd be interested in.
I used your OBDFusion app guides to set up a dashboard to monitor oil temperature, coolant temperature, and intake air temps during track days. The only thing I feel I'm lacking/missing is an oil pressure gauge. I wasn't too keen on running and mounting a traditional gauge into the cabin but figured that would be the only option until you mentioned your project.

I'm glad those videos helped. From all the apps I have tested, OBDFusion runs the best and shows the most data. It is my current favourite app.
After the last week of testing, I found it is a bit of a pain to mount the phone and start the app every time you start the car.
I think a better solution would be a small display that sits on the dash and automatically connects to the bluetooth server when the car is started.

I hope to have it available in the spring as an easy to install kit for oil pressure with a small LCD and 3D printed enclosure.
Also, if your G37 has navigation, the Bluetooth sensor server will also work on the upcoming "GTR gauges on the G37/370" Progress Update on the GTR Gauges using the G37/370z Nav Screen: MotorvateDIY Garage Ep.47

This will allow you to get engine oil pressure on the GTR gauges!
that would be great. Looking forward seeing it this spring.
As for the GTT gauges using the Bluetooth navigation systems that's awesome. (Even thought I don't have navigation). Lol
Im still dreaming of having *engine oil temp, *coolant temp, *rear diff temp, and tire psi all on one screen (and not having to use my phone to display any temps, lol)

You and me both! Would make me want to hang onto my G37 Coupe to Infiniti and beyond.
