7AT Shift Linkage

2011 X Sedan, 203k miles

Today when I pulled in to work, I went to put the car in park and the shifter lost any and all resistance and felt completely loose when I put it in park. When I moved the shifter back in to D, the dash indicated it was still in P and the shifter had no weight to it.

I’m assuming something happened to the shift linkage. The part itself is just a metal bar so I’m guessing it didn’t snap per se.
If it did come loose on one end or the other, any advice on how to tighten it up? I’m not sure how to access it and I’m having trouble finding any diagrams.
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Sounds like either the pivot pin clip failed or perhaps the nut that attaches the control rod manual lever to the transmission control unit came loose. Unfortunately, you will have to go under the car to inspect:

Spot on.
Since winter is in full swing here in Wisconsin (14 degrees today) and I don’t have a heated garage, I had it towed to my preferred local mechanic.
He said one of the bushings in the linkage deteriorated and the linkage became disconnected. He reconnected everything back up (temporary fix) for $60 and told me I would need to replace the deteriorated parts before winter ended so I just had him order them today.
When the parts come in and I get them installed I’ll report back on the cost for anyone interested.

Fun fact: I’ve owned this car since 2014 and have put over 110k miles on it (bought at 91xxx and it’s at 202xxx miles) and the only thing I’ve ever had to replace on it outside of normal maintenance has been a shredded serpentine belt (was cruising at 125mph in middle-of-nowhere for a good 45 mins in sub freezing temps) and a stuck rear caliper because I was riding my brakes in the Rockies in Colorado.

A fuel rail spacer from a Honda Accord which is made from Delrin (hardest plastic) will work perfectly with some trimming and remove any slack along with any mush you should feel from factory.
Solid feeling of the shifter even if it's auto will feel like a night and day difference.
