08 G37s 6MT transmission noise
I spoke to my friend who is a mechanic and he told me to see if pressing the clutch pedal in about a cm or two makes the noise stop. This would mean it is the input shaft bearing if it does not since the throw out bearing will be against the clutch fingers so it would stop making noise if this was the cause of the whine to begin with. I'll keep everyone updated on my findings
Hey guys, so I'm 95% sure it's the input shaft bearing. I hear the whine in every gear until 5th, then it goes away. It also does not go away with the clutch pressed in a little bit does when it's fully pressed to the floor
Got the same issue. Definitely not the throwout bearing, because I changed the clutch and the bearing not that long ago and that noise still persists. I find it really annoying and distracting because the whine is quite loud on 1st and 2nd and it feels like you're revving 7k rpm when it's actually 3k. Rolling the window down or turning the music up helps a lot, lol. Planning to do a transmission rebuild since I also have gear engagement issues while the car is cold.
I just got Redline MT-85 tranny fluid and want to do a fluid flush on it. My mechanic friend said in most cases it will definitely quiet it down but he's not too familiar with these transmissions so he can't be certain. Either way new fluid isn't bad lol
^^^ that’s not true. The input shaft bearing will spin even if the clutch pedal is depressed. A bad input shaft bearing sounds very similar to a bad throw out bearing. The throw out bearing would have more symptoms such as the clutch sticking to the floor
