Can anyone tell me what this sound is?

Hey guys. This sound isn't new to my car, but it's really starting to bug me. You'll notice it in this video - a loud squealing noise. It sounds very similar to the noise my brakes make, for reference.

Also, did my muffler delete today and it is amazing!

I believe that is the sound of your engine.

You don't hear it? Turn the volume up. That really loud squealing noise. I've never heard another G make that noise.

I hear it in the upper RPM range. It is very high pitched and almost sounds like turbo whistle/wine. Complete guess but I would expect that it is something that rotates with insufficient lubrication - idler pulley, alternator, water pump???

Do you hear the noise at idle? How about when free revving? That will at least eliminate most of the transmission.

Another thought popped into my head - belts? Could be a worn belt or over tightened belt

Also, does the squealing noise change in pitch with engine RPM or vehicle speed?

I know exactly what you're talking about. I actually have this exact same sound in my car. I haven't thought much of it until recently, but I may take it in under warranty later this week. Apparently it's a common issue, as a search around the internet reveals. I can't identify or diagnose it, but I can at least concur.

Sounds like a turbo blow-off. Cool!

Nah, seriously, might be a belt or tensioner. Mine just started making a similar noise in the recent cold weather up north. A friend suggested the drive/serpentine belt and/or tensioner. Might not be the same as your problem, but it's a place to start.

Haha, a friend of mine said "Oooh, it's a turbo! When I talked to him about it. What you said seems to be the general consensus though - I'm taking it in to have the headlights replaced as there is condensation in both, so hopefully both will be warrantied.

Thanks for the .02, I'm taking mine in soon as well. Headlights are getting condensation in them so they need replacing.

Yeah I thought it might be that. It doesn't change in pitch. Only at very high RPM does it occur. 6.5K+ usually.

Yeah, I heard my power steering pump whine lightly the other day - not sure if this is normal but I'm having them check it when I take it in soon. No noise at idle, and not free revving. Now that you mention it, it only makes the noise when I'm driving it and I get on it, if i'm rolling and rev it (under an underpass for example), there is no noise. Only motor. I'll have to mention that to them.

Hmm, I have exact same problem as you do, I hear that sound when I reach close to 7k and no noise in low rpm. Hopefully it's not a serious problem...

Bumping an old thread, but ive been searching, trying to figure out if i needed new belts or what. My car makes the same exact noise at WOT.

Is this really just VVEL going full plaid?

These VQs make some interesting sounds

I think it has something to do with the belt. I heard that on mine for the first time this morning. I replaced my belt about 700 miles ago. I am at 43k myself.

I'm right at 40k. I assume the belt is the original, but last inspection at the dealership gave it a pass (assuming they even looked at it)

What kind of belt did you put on?

My car makes the exact same sound and it only occurs at wot 6500rpm to 7500rpm.

I noticed the noise after I removed my rear mufflers.

I think the high pitch whistle sounds awesome.
