Reviving the G37 6MT Clutch issue

I've been reading the forum with regards to the feel of the clutch and mods, specially the spring provided by JSolo.

I have driven an Altima and an Accord manual and from what I can remember they were decent I never really had a problem with clutch. I had a beater Olds Omega once, the clutch pedal had to be practically 3/4 of the way up before the car moved.

How is the G37 stock clutch? Is it just hard to press and release? How difficult is the Jsolo spring mod to the clutch and is it necessary? I live and drive in a city, although currently I don't encounter any bumper to bumper traffic, but lot of traffic lights, stop signs etc. Although my first preference is to get the 6MT but practicality and what makes sense is more important for me.

Looking for opinions and suggestions, thanks!

The clutch has no feel. The RJM pedal is the best fix. The spring is a bandaid at best. Search RJM pedal in the forums. It is the best mod for the money in my opinion.

^^^ Exactly what he said x 1000. OEM clutch is a soft pedal feel with very high abrupt engagement point. I've had/tried every mod available. Spring mod doesn't fix the problem and only masks it a little. Not much improvement. RJM is the way to go without question.

The clutch engagement is somewhat abrupt, so it can be a little jerky if you're not perfectly smooth with it. Some folks have installed JSolo's replacement clutch helper spring, others have installed the RJM clutch assembly with success. I have installed neither. Honestly, the clutch isn't perfect, but I don't think it's that unbearable to live with. It's not as smooth as my last manual car (S2000), but it's still fun to drive and I'll take it over an automatic any day, traffic or no traffic.

I would prefer to stay as stock as possible, with that said I will search the forums for RJM pedal. Is it DIY?

Yes it is a DIY. If you want stock, keep what you have. If you want a better, easier to drive clutch that you can actually feel engage, get the RJM pedal.

The clutch in our Gs are very Bi-Polar, you will get use to it. I didnt change it or fiddle with it because I like the challenges it gives me everyday when I drive it.

But your left leg gets a workout. I love mine. But when I get in my wife's 6MT sedan with OEM clutch after driving mine, I press it so hard it seems like my foot is going trough the firewall. It feels so weak.

Nice... can't wait to rock the aftermarket clutch leg press!

Hey guys, Im new to the forum and I recently purchased my G37s MT. I purchased the RJM Pedal/Clutch assembly and it should be on the way soon. As far as I know the car is bone stock, however I brought my car is for the 96k maintenance and the only thing they brought to my attention was that my clutch is getting weaker and may need replacing in the summer time. Would it be wise to change both the clutch and the flywheel when installing the assembly? Will installing the assembly now cause issues when changing out the clutch and flywheel later on? Also, when starting the car in cold weather it seems that the clutch engagement is basically 1/5th off the floor in extreme cases. Is this normal?? Sorry for the long post guys! Thanks in advance

I test drove a 2011 IPL, to be honest I didn't have any issues with the clutch. I guess it "can" be tweaked, but it was nothing that glaring to me that it needed immediate attention.

Yeah, that's pretty much my opinion on it as well. I'm not losing any sleep over it. But it's always good to have aftermarket options out there. Also, I don't mean to cross-thread, but I see you're the same guy looking at the high-mileage IPL. I hope the forum is helping you out. Good luck with the purchase if you do go for it. 6MT IPLs are hard to find. 3 pedals FTW!
