Loud radiator fan
Loud radiator fan
Hi guys,
I need some input on loud radiator fan. I was in a minor accident recently, (well minor for the Ford Explorer in front of anyways). My front bumper, grille, hood, fenders, radiator support and all miscellaneous items behind the scene were all replaced.
The radiator fan is loud as hell, all the time. Shouldn't the fan be loud or on when the AC is on or car is super hot? I need some input or advice before I take it back to the body shop.
Thanks

Check for obstructions. See if the blades are coming in contact with anything. See if something is bent. Is the loud noise coming form the motor or the blades?
Perhaps have the repair shop who fixed it take a look? If they fixed it correctly it should be just like it was before your crash.

The noise isn't a rubbing noise. The sound is a wind noise, its's like a turbine in there. I can feel the air suction coming from the grille. My point is, doesn't the fan only turn on when the AC is on or the car is hot, or may be a secondary fan that turns on when the AC is on or the car is hot.
Here, how about this. With the engine on, is there a difference when the AC is on and off?
Thanks

Usually there is. Often times you can hear the fans cycle on when you turn on the AC and cycle off when you turn it off. The fans should only run when the engine reaches a certain temperature and once it cools below that cycle back off. They shouldn't run continually unless your car is running hot. I have never noticed them being particularly loud though.
I'd suggest taking it back to the shop that rebuilt your front end and have them check it out. Do you know if they replaced your OEM fans from the damage? Maybe they used aftermarket ones that run louder than the OEM design?
