My experience since my first motorcycle in 1966 is that if the rings are not seated by 100 miles they will probably never seat.
Main thing is on and off the throttle for the first 500 miles an I mean HARD on the throttle to about 5K and then abrupt lift and coast. My 85 MR-2 was broken in this way and burned no oil between 10,000 mile oil changes. It had 186,000 miles on it when sold and ran better than the day I got it.

First oil change was done around 3800. Changed it every 3750-4000 until I hit 15k. Now I'm at 5K OCIs. Using OEM filters and Pennzoil Ultra or G-Oil Green Earth Technologies whenever I can find it at Walmart.

All New BMW's and Corvettes leave their respective factories with a full crankcase of Mobil 1 obviously with very minimal mileage and have been doing it for better than ten years.

Guys, I called dealership about an oil change and they said all post 2010 G37 need "Premium" $90 oil change - which is basically fully synthetic. Prior to 2010 model it should use "regular" blend for $49. I called the local tuner shop where I used to service my WRX, and they said I was totally sane for wanting to do my first oil change at 2,000 miles, and that for my engine they recommend Mobile 1 from get go.

Anyone knows what oil our G37 come with from the factory, is it fully synthetic, blend? Good thing that tuner shop wants about $65 for the job instead of $90. They also said that in these high performance engines, using synthetic oil does not mean longer service interval. So more $$$ . On my WRX I used blended oil at the dealer for a whole $40 a pop...

Don't believe that dealer. The factory fill was Nissan conventional with a synthetic additive pack. There is a limited time window('08?) that need the specific nano particles and to a lesser degree, the ester in the add. Pack of the Nissan "Ester" oil. Try running the 0/5w-30 oil of your choice and enjoy the car. if you notice the vvel tick, consider the Nissan oil.

Update: Just did first oil change at 2400 miles with Pennzoil Platinum. I went to my tuner shop and they confirmed their recommendation for a full synthetic on my car. They said that G37 engine has high tolerances and it's just a good idea to use oil with the best lubrication properties. They initially offered to use Mobile 1, but one of the guys said that he would prefer to use Pennzoil Platinum, because Mobile 1 is not the same formulation as it used to be and it lost some components that PP still has. I trust them and went ahead with Pennzoil Platinum. The only thing I'm thinking off is wouldn't Pennzoil Ultra be even a better choice, since I paid the same amount for PP as what they originally quoted me for Mobile 1 oil change?

Buy a good brand of oil at the store of your choice and save the $$$!! $90 for a synthetic oil change is ridiculous! I spend $35 for my WIX oil filter and Mobile 1 and do it myself.

Also, everyone has their own philosophy on oil changes. It's like an a$$hole. Don't expect to get a definite answer when asking these kinds of questions. There's plenty of info on the internet.

I agree $90 + tax is ridiculous on the oil change. That's why I went with the tuner shop. Still expensive, but I live in apt, so doing it myself is not feasible. As luck might have it, dealership sent me a $25 coupon off the oil change the day after I did it.

I'm just still debating whether I should've went with synthetic or stayed with conventional oil. I've never went synthetic on my WRX, but then again it didn't cost almost $40k...

I'd run a full synthetic and nothing but once the engine is broken in. There have been reports of the VQ37 running too hot and causing problems, a good synthetic will help

Well, as I mentioned I passed the G37 break in period of 1200 miles. Besides, I don't see a point of doing an oil change before the end of the break in period, because well, it's a time when engine still breaks in
