First oil change early?
Hi everyone,
My new G37 is past the break in mileage of 1,200. Finally!
Am I nuts for thinking of bringing car to dealer for an oil change? On my previous WRX, I didn't wait until 4500 miles and did an oil change at 3,000 miles, which was its break in mileage.

Did mine at 1,000 with Mobil 1 5-30EP, again at 5,000 miles and got a UOA from Blackstone saying to change again at 10,000 miles. I will post the 10,000 mile UOA it the UOA thread when I get it back.

Wow I haven't seen any UOA's over at bobistheoilguy.com for the VQ37VHR that I'd want to take past 7,500 based on wear averages I've reviewed for any oil so far. How many miles do you have on your engine?
10,000 mils in six months. 5254 miles since the last oil change.
Im about to do my first @ 3,500. Around 3 months too. I was wondering, did you all use synthetic on your first change? I know synthetic is thinner and some people like to break it in with non-synth. Let me know what you recommend? Since im already due an oil change, should I just hop on synthetic? (bc a lot of you changed around 1000 during breakin) Thanks guys

I got half a case of that nissan ester stuff. I'll dump that in at about 1500-1750 miles. Leave it in until probably late april, then dump in a jug of penzoil ultra (from walmart). Engine should be well broken in by then (at least 3500+ miles). On the last car I switched to synthetic at about 1400 miles - mainly because it was a turbo.
One too many zeros. Every car I have owned since 1985 has had its first oil change at 1,000 miles with Mobil 1. There is no reason to wait before switching to synthetic oil.
You can do this, but this would be along the same lines as do newer car engines still need to have a break in period? or should you drive it like you stole it? Maybe i'm old fashioned when i want to make sure that my rings and seals have the proper amount of time to wear and seat properly before switching, i also take it easy during the engine break in period. but to each their own. your car, your opinons, your choice.
