I have had no starting issues, in fact my tuner remarked on how good my car started as many of them do not start well.

Umm... were we off topic? I thought we were talking about the Stillen SC issues and solutions??? If you have read any of the previous threads you will know that the Stillen tune is a baseline tune only. My did not work at all. Most people have the kit custom tuned as we all have different vehicles, drive at different altitudes and have different exhaust mods.

I have read this thread and just about every other one... What I was more specifically looking to see was if we could get some folks to chime in who have had the kit for a fair amount of time and perhaps garner some data on long term reliability. Particularly those who have done upgrades to the kit.

I think the Stillen kit is pretty safe if you don't try to make into GT-R performance. Our cars will never be as fast as the Nissan supercar and I think it is foolish to try. I have driven a modified GT-R (600 WHP) and it makes my car feel slow.

I wanted to generate a little more excitement from my car since the I could not afford the Eau Rouge that was planned with the GT-R engine (Infiniti has now scrapped the idea). So I spent some money to beef up performance. Will it last forever? probably not... but then I have an excuse to swap it out for a 3.8 or better yet... buy the damn GT-R

goredcar you are right on point with that!
The Stillen supercharger will not reach the power levels required to put a G on point with a GT-R and it's definately not worth even trying.
Thus ultimately after months of exhaustive research I have decided to go with the Vortex Motorsports single turbo.

After doing the math for the same money i'd spend on the Stillen and all the things you have to do to it to make it *safer* and more usable and still only pull ~430 WHP, for that same money I can have the latter at lower boost (~7psi) and with a conservative tune pull ~500 whp and have room to grow from there if I want to build the motor down the road Thus while still not a GT-R it's damn close enough for me and my pocketbook thanks me

Crash... I think a turbo is a good choice, but it will not be cheaper than the stillen SC kit. Remember a turbo is totally custom and the labour costs are going to be up there. I considered a turbo but could not find someone who I really trusted to do the install. You will still need a tune, still need gauges... so those costs are fixed. I personally don't like messing with the oil supply of my engine. I know someone with a rear mount turbo and he has oil lines running all the way back to it. That makes me nervous. If I am on a road trip and have trouble with my SC I can go into any Infiniti dealer and they will be able to help me. I am also not convinced that you will make 500WHP with 7 PSI... I think you will need higher boost to get those numbers. What I like about the turbo setup is that you can have multiple maps for different boost levels... I have tunes for 91 and 94 octane and a valet tune... I can't notch up to a higher boost

The costs of the Stillen kit (taking it to the max):
- Stillen Tuner Kit: 6.5K
- 9lb pulley: $100
- 2 Uprev GT MAFs: $700
- ID725 Fuel Injectors: $708
- A good Tune: ~$800 (Uprev license + dyno time)
- Turbosmart BOV: $170 (not really needed but nice cool factor)
- Frozenboost Intercooler: $179
- 25-row Oil cooler: $383
- Shop/Labor time to install it: ($1000 - 2000) variable based on location
Total Before labor/install: 9.5K
With Labor to install: + $1000 - 2000

WHP: 430 - 450ish

Also for me too with the Stillen kit I would have to take my ARK R-Spec HFCs off and put the OE ones back on which sucks so that would be some money down the drain having to take a loss and sell my HFCs.

The Vortex single turbo kit is one flat cost, tune + install at their shop: $8.7K. They use mtuned for their tuning so can't ask for more in that regard. I am having the oil cooler added as an extra precaution so figure in another $380 for that so I am at roughly 9K. In all fairness I will spend some money getting the car to and from their shop but all things considered to me this is a no brainer.

WHP: 500 - 600+ (anything past 500 better build the engine...)

Gauges for me BTW are via Torque, I have an android tablet in the car with a bluetooth ODBII adapter with a very high PID read rate.

I have been talking with Vortex on the phone over the past two weeks they are telling me 500 whp @ 7psi. They use a very efficient Precision PT6766 Turbo. It will actually make more power however I am asking for a VERY conservative tune on purpose since I am still on stock internals. The kit is custom fabbed and fit to your car right there right in the shop. Also they do things like fabbing a custom front crash bar to hold the intercooler and replace the OE one which is very nice. Also the kit does not move around OE stuff in the engine compartment making the car easy to return to stock if so desired. I'll update my other thread on here with details with how things go.

He's pushing 500 whp and 396 wtq according to him but he hasn't posted a dyno....at any rate I think he would put up a decent fight given that he weighs less than the GTR. it would be an interesting race. I think an 09 GTR might lose to him to tell you the truth. Maybe not off the line but on the highway he might actually win because he definitely has the power to weight advantage over a stock 09 if he's pushing 500 whp and 396 wtq.

I was 9900 out the door with parts and labor. I got the full kit tuned in the satin black with oil cooler upgrade and crank pulley upgrade.

This is the first I have heard about replacement of the MAFs. Is this required? Also curious about the ID725 Fuel Injectors - are they better that the ones provided in the stillen kit?

The UpRev MAF sensors and injectors are only needed if you go with the upgraded pulley. The stock MAF sensors run out of voltage with the upgraded pulley and the injectors are to supply the extra fuel needed.

On the Stillen SC, No one is making that much,. If he says he is he's BS'n. If he even shows a dyno its been inflated to show it, Trust me it's not happening.
12 PSI and 457WHP 500 WHP is 18 PSI no one has spun it that high yet
