The interesting thing about transmission issues nowadays is that you look back at the 60s where we had engines putting out 400+HP mated to 3 or 4 speed *automatics* that NEVER had these issues.

I thought things were supposed to get BETTER as they get more developed.

I was there in the 60's. I ran an E/SA (Legal C/MP ;-) @ high 10's using an Art Car A727 case. (It was often my DD too 1967-1972.) Before that, I ran mostly MT's and a couple of pieces of krap the factory thought could last a 1/4 mile. I can tell you, without any doubt, transmissions are much much better today. Three speeds were the rule back then, just up from two. Second gear bands etc. burned bare all too often and transmission fluid was often seen even on the street. By the very late 60's, on the street, both Chevy and Mopar did have "good" stock transmissions. But, IMHO, not by today's standards. They didn't offer 7-8 gears, computer controlled, launch controled, D, DS, M, stock GTRs doing low 11's with an AT (!), etc. etc... as AT's do today. If the transmission we have today could have been purchased back then...

But, I hear you Chris11LE. Personally I wish *any* part of a car was perfect. But, they often get better with time and in 10 years, they'll probably be that much better. IMHO, for AT's, today is the good old days. Disclaimers apply, your milage may vary.
