I have a 2009 just FYI
Sweet upgrade Bandit, those stock 17" tires (Goodyear RS-As "Really Slippery-Always") don't belong anywhere near a 300hp car, they're for 4 cyl Accords & Camrys. As you've stated, the G feels like a totally different car, get ready to drive your G like it was meant to be driven. I had to ditch those stockers w/ only 3k miles on them, a truly horrendous tire. Enjoy your "new" G!

Yes, absolutely, in DS it does.
In D it also downshifts but it is subtle and not noticeably rev matched.

Sorry to belabour this, but the bulletin says the downshifting is removed from D. So to be sure we are talking about the same thing:

You are driving a steady 60 mph for some long period of time. You quickly release the throttle (signal 1 to the computer) and stab the brake hard (signal 2 to the computer is the stabbing; signal 3 is how hard the requested braking is) because something jumped out on the road ahead of you. On my car, in D or DS, the tranny would immediatly initiate a downshift from 7th to probably 3rd or maybe even 2nd gear...revving up to 5,000 rpm perhaps. (The seat belt pretensioner would also engage if you need a guage of how hard the braking is.) This is panic braking downshifting.

I will be delighted if it is still in D--I argue it is a safety feature, though many others here seem to disagree. But Mike, I can't tell from your description if this is really what you are talking about, or other more modest downshifting that comes from "spirited" driving? I am doubting that the same downshifting is occurring in D and DS, but in D they just dropped the rev matching...but this is Infiniti, so stranger things have proven to be true!!!!!!!!

Thanks...this is the last piece of info I need to make my decision re: update.

You are patient! I upgraded to larger and better tires (and different wheels) immediately.

Mine downshifts aggressively in D, wasn't paying attention & caught a turn signal changing and it popped it down a couple gears immediately, woke my as$ up to be sure

blnewt, even after the reflash. Mine doesn't perform like that in D, not since the reflash..... In DS mode yes, but also that has been Neutered down. My observation, now with 1300 miles since the reflash, it's a better ride BUT I still don't like the the Too High a Gear while coasting. It's the way it is with 7 gears. Mileage.....Mileage......The auto makers must meet that number over the fleet. So, this is the end of the road to my posts in this regard.

To those that have NOT done this, (Mark Collins), I would not hesitate (excuse the PUN), if you have the LAG. Glad to hear that the 09er's have it too.

When my lease comes to the end in June 2013, I will probably NOT opt for an Infiniti. But we'll see, I will definitely test drive many other cars this time.

I wasn't talking about general downshifting, as like you mentioned, it's always aiming to keep the rpms down and the mpg's up. But a panic braking from speed mine will downshift very quick, enough to push you off the seat for sure and yes, it was in D.

I'll have to try that in D mode. I know before the reflash, that sudden downshift / rev matching would occur in D mode more than post reflash. I guess luckily I haven't had to go into a hard stop of late....

Bandit: Are the Michelin Super Sports a new tire? Are they Michelin Pilots ? I'm in the market for new tires (OEM RSAs are real noisy now with 34k miles on them). I had to replace one -sidewall puncture - about 8k miles ago - but I am willing to get a complete set of new tires. I'm sorry...This is in the wrong Thread. My Bad.

Taking my G to another Infiniti dealer next week for a check of the ITB12-027 TSB since the first dealer tells me I already have that update. Might not be using Consult 3+?

No, they are just idiots, since the update came out in between the time you car was last serviced and when you asked them about it.

I've got mine at the dealer right now, i've addressed this issue with the transmission. Hopefully the put the new update in. I have a 2012 loaner right now, and i can feel the difference in the drive. So mine def needs the software update.

***UPDATE***
2009 G37x Sedan

I got the update today after 2 days of dealer holding the car and "finding nothing wrong". They asked me today to take the tech on a ride along to re-create the issue.

I pulled my Ace Card and brought in the service bulltin from Infiniti clearly showing ITB12-027 applies to '09's as well as the actual TSB and demanded the flash. Suprise. suprise, after 15 they found it and were applying it.

Long story short and 100 miles later, the final result is night and day. The shift experience feels completley different. Smoothe shifting experience all the way through the gears and back down. No hesitation, jerking, or lag. The ECU now really feels in control in all situations, highway and citi driving, slow and fast / aggressive. It holds all gears very well in all types of situations and is not tripping over itself or over thinking what it should be doing.

Now, it's still really early. I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks for the "learning" to see if this lasts. But it really seems like they got it right this time.

BTW, someone on an early post mentioned the changes in engine sound and exhaust tone. True, both seem much lower now. (running Gen 3 intake, stock exhaust.)
