Transmission Trouble

I have a 08 G37S coupe (6-speed) and I absolutely love this car. I bought the car in December 2008 and I do not drive it regularly, it only has 14,000 miles. The last few times that I have had a passenger in the car they have asked me what the whine was they were hearing coming from the car. I thought that it might be coming from the limited slip and assumed it was normal. Today I put the car in the shop to see if there was really a need to be concerned. Well, I need a new tranmission. It will all be covered under warranty but I am now concerned about how well this car will hold up over the long run because I had planned on keeping it for a long time. Has anyone else had the same problem? Should I be concerned?

Any comments would be appreciated

Thanks.

3 clutch disks and 2 flywheels? What are you doing to the car?!? Can you describe your driving habits/style?

I was seriously disappointed with the 6MT in this car myself. You almost have to drive it like its made of glass (at least you feel that way). The 7AT is much better. I drive this one like I stole it!!!

I'm not sure if you (or I) should be concerned. I had the same problem with my '08 6MT Coupe. A whine developed subtlety and slowly at around 14K miles. (I don't push the car too hard too often.) I pointed the whine out to the service manager while in for regular maintenance. The throwout bearing was failing. The dealer had the transmission replaced within 24 hours and its been working well since then. However, I've driven less than 2K miles since the repair.
