that is retarded. the concept makes sense in warm climate though.
still i cant believe people go that far to get an edge in performance, which might not even be significant in the bigger scheme of things.

Seems very stupid for no gain. It will all eventually heat soak anyways.

Trying to keep the air coming in as cool as possible seems very stupid to you?

Yes I do find it stupid. A metal throttle body will heat soak eventually anyways. Takes about 5 minutes to warm up (coolant will be cold anyways). Takes about 15-30 minutes for your TB to heat soak (depending how you drive). So your intake might see a 5 degree temperature difference for the first 10-20 minutes of driving. Sounds like a great reason to bypass an engine safety feature. Your car will not see any power difference anyways for a 5 or even 10 degree difference for those 30 minutes.

If someone was serious about doing it, it should be done right. You can buy an electronicly operated soleniod valve from MSC for 40/50 dollars. Simply put it in the coolant line and hook up a switch in the cabin. You can get it normally closed so warm coolant only flows to the TB when you hit the switch.

Atleast then you are not competly bypassing a designed engine safety function for a pointless mod.

Edit: Just looked it up. ASCO has a 12v dc soleniod valve for 33 dollars. I am pretty sure they can be had for even cheaper if you really look. But still a pointless mod.

If you really want to be creative. Hook up a Snow system with a glycol resivor and pump to flow through the TB and cool it. Still do not believe you would see any gains.

This "safety feature" has been installed on many different cars for decades now. It's also been bypassed for just as long. And what exactly is this "safety feature"? So the throttle body doesn't freeze up? I find it odd that all the tuner enthusiasts believe this feature is to keep the tb from freezing, while all the muscle car and Euro car guys think it's an emission related item.

I'm not saying there are any gains to this mod on this car. What I am saying is that this mod has good merit and has been proven effective on many other cars time and time again. I don't see this as a stupid mod.

On a side note: Maybe I should drill some holes into the throttle body on my truck and route some coolant through it. It doesn't have this feature and I just want to be as safe as I can...

Yep, it was usually one of the first mods on a 5.0.
