Well I finally got around to installing my KW’s this weekend and ran into an issue crossed posted this in the DIY section but going to post in my build thread as well:

When going to install the rear struts, noticed a nut was missing from the box. The nut I am missing is the one that attaches at the base of the rear strut to the axle assembly.

One of the rear struts had this nut zip tied to it and the other did not. of course i had already done the driver side and did not notice the passenger side nut missing until i started doing that side.

I contacted the vendor to see how quick they can get this rectified for me but I am also planning to check home depot or ace tomorrow to see if I can find a suitable alternative.

Does anyone know the specs of this nut? Even if I can just get a stop gap for now so I'm not on my friends lift for a week while I wait for the vendor or KW to help me out.

the nut i am missing is pictured below. the lag bolt is reused from the oem assembly however there is no oem nut that can be reused since it is part of the oem strut itself, and not a separate nut like the KW’s use.

I believe that is a 12mm bolt used for the lower rear shock mount. It's probably a 1.25 pitch, but could also be a 1.5 pitch, so you might want to bring the bolt with you just to be sure you get the right nut. The nut KW supplied appears to be a nylon locknut and I would try to get something with a metric grade of 10.9 if possible... this is basically equivalent to grade 8 SAE. Good luck!

Thanks man - yeah i was able to determine that it is an M12x1.25
I could not find a nylon lock nut with those specs but I was able to find an all metal lock nut which I used.

I'll do a full review of the KWv1 in time.

For now i am very happy with the comfort of the ride...given how low I am I can't believe how smooth the ride it, not jarring at all over bumps.

Not so happy with the height of the rears right now which is about 25.75 and i'm almost maxed out on the spec KW says you can extend the collar to. Going to make some adjustments this weekend and see if I can get it dialed in closer to 26.5.

Any of you with a KW setup on the sedan please post your specs over in the thread I started in the sedan forum.

If you're at full extent, where are you going to find another 3/4" inch of threads?

Sounds like you're at zero gap fender to tire. Yikes! While that's the goal of a lot of people here, I don't think that's your goal. It sure wasn't mine.

Very good question - there are actually many threads that are below the recommended maximum - like a lot.
When i do the adjustments I'll try to grab a pic.

KW also sells spring spacers that sit between the collar and the spring that I may need to look into.

Also I think i don't need to find 3/4" to raise the car 3/4" don't think the rear is linear like the front - but could be wrong. did you notice when you were doing your rears if the collar adjustment distance = height adjustment?

Yep. Can't see why it wouldn't be.

I believe Falker is actually correct. There is a motion or "lever ratio" you have to take into account when adjusting coil-overs. This is the mechanical advantage the tire has over the shock/spring and is the actual stroke ratio difference between the amount the shock/spring moves and the amount the tire moves. The lever ratio can typically vary from anywhere around 1:1.1 for a solid axle type suspension to as much as 1:1.5 or higher for some long travel double wishbone type suspensions. So what all this means when your adjusting your spring perch on you coil-overs is that you don't need to adjust the spring perch the full amount of the ride height change you are looking for. I don't know the exact lever ratio for our suspension set-up, but from my experience I believe the lever ratio for the rear is somewhere around 1:1.2 (This could be calculated by measuring the spring angle when the lower control arm is the horizontal position), so for every 10mm you adjust the spring perch you will change the ride height ~12, so based on this if Falkner needs to raise the rear of his vehicle up 3/4" then he would only need to lower the upper spring perch around ~0.6.

What he said. LOL

But seriously, 2GoRNot2G has given this a lot more consideration, so defer to is opinion on the topic. In the end, the only real measure is to make an adjustment and re-assess things, rinse, repeat, until you're happy.

Wow - I've been gone for a while.

Between work family and some medical issues. I guess just let a few months slip away without logging in or making any progress. Luckily everything is just fine and i'll have to plan a few more upgrades for this year.

I am thinking
  • Install the RJM that's been sitting in the garage
  • New shift ****
  • Install spacers

I had been putting off spacers because I thought I would have summer wheels/tires at this point but I think i'm going to have to hold off on that expense for a couple more years. Figure a quality set of spacers will be a nice stop gap for now.

I plan on raising the coils a bit in a few weeks - I am just a bit too low for comfort, so I'll probably go up about half an inch or so and get it aligned. Then will measure for the spacer size.

Glad to be back, looking forward to reading what I missed in everyone's threads.

That indeed Mike, you've been gone for quite a while, in the time you've been gone I managed to get KW V3s in the December, let them sit till install in Mid March along with SPC camber kits front and rear, got the new V3 RJM and installed it as well as new rear diffuser , quad tips, front sport lip, and even something extra. Only if you would've said you need spacers few days ago, I had my H&R DRM 15&20mm spacers for sale but sold them yesterday.

I hope you'll be attending this years Annual Meet up in August in Scranton area ?

In the time that RJM pedal sat gathering dust, Ryan came out with v3.0.

Welcome back, Mike.
