Thanks guys. All in car electronics should work fine, and I'll be going with a standalone ECU for engine mapping.

Any thoughts on what this will do for weight distribution (and total weight for that matter)?

Plans for the car once done? Any track time?

looks easy enough...haha wow i really hope this works out, good luck!

do you think, after everything, you will be below the dollar figure of those curiously priced FI kits for the g? or is it more of a uniqueness factor that's driving you?

I read somewhere the difference between a VQ35 and an RB block is around 200 lbs. If you compare a VQ37 block with an A/T vs an RB engine with an M/T I think the gap gets narrowed down. Either ways, adjustable coils and a front strut bar are on their way to fine tune the suspension

I don't want to get too ahead of myself yet, let's see how it plays out. The challenge is to make this a DD for a while until I get my hands on a beater later on.

Thanks man, yeah I make it seem too easy but the guys there are working on my car full time. They're very competent

Uniqueness and awesomeness of a single turbo RB26/30 on a G37 is enough of a driver for this project. Cost wise, I may have exceeded the cost of a TT kit now but once you factor in shipping to Dubai, labor, G37 MT + Aftermarket Clutch & Flywheel + swap labor, tuning etc.. I would probably on the better side.

Cool. Yeah, I was just curious if the RB would make the car more balanced or less. I'm guessing less since it's a longer block (granted an assumption given I6 vs V6). And yes, coilovers will do the trick for setting the right stance and weight balance to an extent. Was just secretly hoping the RB would help with front end push

Regardless, mad props for trying this. I'm really impressed and pleased to see some true modding going on in one of our cars!

Damn you Sam! I was looking into doing this swap for my G except with an RB26 instead of an RB30 this spring. But looks like you beat me to the punch. Looking good though! Props!

I'll keep you posted on the front/rear balance. I'm still sitting on Eibachs and will be able to tell a change in balance/front weight once everything is bolted up just from the change in ride height.

The RB26 would be a blast too but keep in mind, it has a much shorter stroke. Meaning it'll be lacking in the torque department but very high revving. I went for the RB30 because our fat azz cars need a bit more torque. My RB30 will probably redline at 7k. Get an RB30 block if you can find one otherwise, you'll have to betray the brand and go 2JZ

I've wondered about this for a long time since I've not yet built an engine with a standalone ECU- does the new ECU talk to the factory idiot lights on the dash? How about the information screens? I guess I'm wondering how much integration can actually be achieved with a standalone vs a reprogrammed stock ECU (like Osiris or similar)?

Obviously since you're running a completely different block, and mechanical throttle to boot you can't simple reprogram... I have just been thinking about how something like this would behave on a DD.

Yup it will be interesting to discover that, I'm sure my dashboard will light up like a christmas tree at first (check engine, VDC, slip, cruise control etc..). But then I'll work with my electrician and tuner to get these taken care of.

Update 10-12-2012:

Great news! The shop is done with the engine and transmission alignment and I couldn't be happier. The shifter now sits 100% OEM and the best part, I won't even have to modify my center console for it.

Engine mounts have been spot welded today, everything is looking perfect. Tomorrow they'll get welded and finished to look 100% OEM

Turbo fitment is still tight especially on the turbine side. That line will have to be relocated for sure.

And finally, the finalized engine position. Gotta love that RB tilt!

God, that last shot is beautiful. Shivers down my spine...

Just curious- why the purple? Will that be a theme extending past the engine bay?
