R2C Black Hex Series Filters
I bought my R2C intake kit in August 2013. The plan was to upgrade to a long-tube design (Takeda) after four years or so, and it's been two years and 12K miles later. I'm a little over the mid-point for that loose schedule, which is when I tentatively planned on replacing the R2C filters with something... maybe just new white filters from R2C.
So rather than wash the original filters... because lazy, I dropped $60/each plus $20 shipping for $140 worth of their new(ish) Black Hex Series filters.
Here's a picture of it, right next to the original:
As you can see, the new filter has this logo/brand strap at the point where the wire mesh connects on the wrap-around. It's a much cleaner presentation. What you can also see is the filter element looks more dark. But in actuality, the filter element is just as white as the original. What's different is that the ridges are themselves bound in some wire, which makes it look black(ish).
In the engine bay, I oriented one of the filters label-up, and the other label-down. The asymmetrical approach appeals to me, in that I don't like duplicating branding.
Driving around, the car sounds exactly the same. Which is to say, my exhaust completely drowns out the intake howl. As for performance, butt-dyno tells me not a thing has changed here, either. So there's that.
According to R2C, there's a 40% increase in CFM airflow. I have no reason not to believe them. Then again, nothing perceptable has changed. I suspect if I were to dyno before and after, there would be a 1hp or 2hp bump which would be explained easily enough as normal variation run to run. I base that suspicion on nothing whatsoever, LOL.
Anyway, these be them. Infiniti G37 Cold Air Intake

I like the look of the new filters. The black mesh make them more appealing to me personally because it color schemes well with the rest of the black plastics inside the engine bay. I don't understand why you wouldn't like symmetry, but it's your bay. Overall it is looking great.

Plus, the band is identical on both, meaning the orientation of the text is the same, which makes it symmetrical only in design, but not content... if you follow what I'm saying. If R2C shipped these filters with opposing orientation for the text, then I would reconsider.
In the end, it's way-y-y too much thought on the topic. I'll admit that freely.

When I switch over to Takeda in a couple years, I'm loosely planning on having the midpipes powdercoated something other than the default polished aluminum. It would be truly awesome if I could get them nickle-plated similar to the R2C in Black Nickle.
Some years ago, I reached out to R2C with an inquiry about their plating process. They don't actually do that in-house, and contract out for it. They offered to plate my GT Spec FSTB to match... for $200 + two-way shipping. Ouch.

Just subscribed. Very Nice G, from one 50 plus to another. On Labor Day weekend picked up an low mile (25k) 6MT Coupe.
Like your approach. All in good time.
Still have a 13 year old in the house and a 21 in collage.
Rain season just started here, would love to hide the car from the rain, but it rains to much here. And I want to drive it every chance.

It's a few weeks before the snows & duckfeet go back on for Winter, and the car is perched at the end of my driveway. No touch-up on the photos, except for the plates. Exactly as the camera saw the car.
