Shocks

I have a 2008 G37S with about 61K miles. I was looking in my owners manual and can't see at what mileage they recommend changing the shock absorbers. My ride is a little rough and wondered when others have replaced their shocks and at what mileage.

Thanks

If you push down on the car and let off, if the Shocks keep moving then it's time to change them.

There is on mileage recommendation to replace them at, they are designed to last as long as your car. However, the do wear out sometimes and the suggestion above is one way to tell if it's shot.

Honestly Bluedevils95 how are you going to be able to push down on any Infiniti enough without damaging the body to get the shocks to bounce or not control the minor oscillation you've introduced? You're going to have to drive the car and try to sense whether the car's suspension is holding the road effectively when it hits rough patches in the road and while cornering. Given the quality of most OEM shocks, it would be easy to say that any car after 50K miles or more is probably in need of some form of improvement depending on your type of driving. If I had a car with that many miles on it, I would definitely be looking for some form of upgrade with a quality aftermarket shock such as Bilstein or Koni yellows. I'm sure there are other brands out there of equal quality from KYB and such but I have little experience with these on the Infinity. JMO-ICBW

The only options are Tokico, which are OEM quality, and Koni, which are a major step up!!

As I posted above, there are only 2 aftermarket struts available for the G.

Your not going to damage the car. All you do is push down on the trunk. The car will go down and bounce back up and stop if the shocks are still good. I am not asking to jump on it. Its just one basic test to find out if its good or not.

Another consideration might be to buy some take off's from a lower mileage car. There's likely to be a few that have upgraded a perfectly good factory suspension with complete aftermarket bits some point early in the car's life. This would be a good value if you were happy with the stock handling.

Does the car nose dive when braking normally? Do you notice the car wallowing when cornering fast. Seem generally bouncy? If so, then yes, time for a refresh.

Consider springs too, by 60K miles the OE ones might be sagging.

Just go with coils, you have a reason to now and you'll get the extra benefits, decent coils are 1000 shipped so consider it!
