Hello im coming to all of you with a request from a client. He is getting older and is beginning to feel that even the stock G37S (sport) suspension is a bit harsh.

Im looking for a spring or a spring and damper combination to not necessarily lower the car but make it more comfortable. I would actually prefer the car to not be lowered much with whichever combination is chosen, or would not be upset with it ending up a little higher than the stock G37S ride height.

I know, now you are all thinking this goes against everything you have been taught or experienced, but he loves his G and does not want the stiffness of the suspension to ruin the experience for him.

I would like to know a few things:
1. OEM G37s Spring rate
2. OEM G37 non sport spring rate
3. Are the sedan and coupe springs interchangeable and if so OEM sedan spring rates
4. Are the struts and shocks the same between the G37S and the standard G37 coups
5. Aftermarket solutions that would fit his needs.

Why not go with all season tires with a taller sideway?

 

Talk to swift, they may be able to come up with a custom spring for your needs

 

Trade the S sways for Journey sways, should get a bit more comfort, not quite as stiff. Should be able to find someone willing to swap, maybe even make a few extra bucks in the deal \
This would keep everything else the same looks & function-wise.

As long as your shocks/struts are in good shape you shouldn't have too much trouble trading your S shocks/struts/sways to someone w/ a journey. Should be able to find a willing trader within a reasonable distance too.

 

I'm interested to see the answers to his questions.

Also, does the owner have a coupe or sedan?

 

I own the Journey model and I think the ride is too harsh. so switching out with a Journey might not do it.. I own a 90 300zx and its ride is better than my Journey..

He could change to 17 in tires and then run them at about 5 psi lower than recommended. My tires are dealer set to 35 and I run at 30 to get any relief in the harsh ride...

i have the goodyear eagles, plan to go with something with better ride rating when I replace, like Yokahamas

 

You can't put 17s on a 37 sport model, won't clear the bbk.
The 17s from a sedan do not fit a coupe.
You could do 18s, if the ride is bothering him, time for a new ride.
Dulling the suspension will not help, sport models ride rough.
Bigger sidewall & new struts/shocks should help, at least soften the ride.
My parents dumped the coupe when my dad had surgery.
He couldn't deal with the ride/suspension.

Buy a Camry

 

Don't diss the camry. I test drove a 2013 6cyl version not too long ago. It handled surprisingly well for what it was. Not to mention, extremely peppy (though I hate FWD).

 

How about a seat cushion instead of changing the suspension???

That's hilarious, they did dump the g for a Camry.
Idk why, other than my dad was always complaining about the mileage.
Told them before they bought it, it's not good on gas.
Dad retired, so he downsized, but sad for them.
He felt the car just sat only had 7k in 24 months. Thats why they got rid of it,He said he did it for financial reasons.
Just depreciation alone was killing them,they also have a 00 q45 & a Lincoln town car.

This is one of those times, they regret the downgrade.

 

He could always try koni socks with swift springs.
