KW coilover install time/cost

I'm being quoted 4-5 hours or $350 - $450 which seems extremely high since springs cost me about $150 to install and it seems like coilovers may be simpler because you don't need to compress springs. What would be a fair counter or can I do this myself with basic mechanical knowledge and tools?

I was charged $350 for a performance shop to install my coilovers.

They're still going to have to compress the springs for the install.

Sounds about right unless you know someone. Took 4 hours for the install.

I did it at home with basic tools. I spent about 6 hours on the install but that was with installing front and rear camber kits and really taking my time. Doing it again, I could do it in 4 -5 hours. If you have the time and a variety of tools, it can be done. Just plan a weekend for it. Must haves are breaker bar, impact wrench and PB blaster.

that is about the same price range i was charged. i didnt have the tools, time, and general knowledge to do the install so I went to a professional.

IMO, I had an expensive upgrade that I wanted to get installed correctly and the odds of the shop messing up is a lot less than me messing up.

sadly everytime i purchase i forget the install fees(if i cant do it myself).

Use the labor fee to buy yourself some tools. There are some very good DIYs in the forum. If you take your time and do some research ahead of time, you will do a better job than the shops.

Shops dont take the time to torque the bolts according to factory specs. Everything is done with a impact gun.

I was quoted $500 to install my KW V3's and SPC front and rear camber kits. Still debating to do it myself with friends or get it done at a shop.

Coilovers are a whole lot simpler to install, but extra time is spent trying to finalize the height.

Plus, don't you need to compress the springs on the KW to put the OEM or aftermarket top hats on? (i.e. some KW's don't have them)

Either way, you can certainly DIY this. Just make sure the car is on sturdy jack stands and you PB blast the daylights out of every nut and bolt you plan to loosen.

Yes that is correct.

I did the install in just a few hours, however, getting the ride height even at all corners took a bit longer.

I was quoted $400-600 to put on springs (they said 4-6 hours of work). I thought that was pretty high for just springs. I am going to sell my springs and wait to get coil overs. So that price doesn't seem bad.

My buddy has a lift and all the tools needed and then some....but I think for suspension I would rather have a shop do it.

I'd rather spend that money on a set of nice tools and install them myself.

And whoever quoted you $400-600 for springs are on some serious crack.

I got quoted $375 for my coilover installation, so instead I did it myself.
