May i suggest placing the led on the underside of the keyhole cover? Something like this? If it can even be done...

Those are called "puddle" lights. My buddy's old Explorer came with puddle lights years ago. I'm not sure if they're still on the new ones, but I know that there are other cars that come with puddle lights.

Stay on with the headlights? I wouldn't do that.

I know...your Explorer is red. I saw your post on an Explorer forum. I love those factory 20's. They almost look aftermarket.

My first thought upon viewing that youtube vid, "wow, maybe it would help people to NOT hit the painted area under the handle with their fingernails"

I see this on so many cars. If you are always careful like me, you won't get scratches in this area and certainly don't need a clear bra type piece for that area. I see these type scratches on so many cars owned by people who "think" that they take real good care of their car and I just laugh...
It's a lot easier to just be careful each time the handle is grabbed vs polishing the scratches under the handle!

It is indeed a nice feature/mod...

Probably won't do anything to help the folks who create the door handle cup scratches though, not in the daylight at least.

I think the cx7 way of illuminating into the oval dome area + looking at the service manual and grabbing a positive from the map dome lights. When the domes are on it's usually when you're getting into your car. you would have to take out your handles and drill, seal, and make it flush (nice on your hand). Also, LEDs burn out. how hard would it be to replace them.

Yeah, its the same thing whether its in the door handle or mirrors. It lights up the area around the door.

To do what the OP wants to do you have to drill holes behind the door handles. Its been done on a few G35s already.

sucks how our G's don't have door handle courtesy lights. Sucks how our G does not have turn signal light on the sideview mirrors, sucks how our G's don't have puddle lights.

Even the damn Altima coupes have turn signal lights on their side mirrors!

Yeah those factory 20" wheels are just awesome. Love the Explorer tho, especially when I don't feel like shifting gears in the G. And the Flowmaster 50 on the 4.6L sounds so sweet.
