android in car...

Has anyone tried putting an android tablet in the cars dash? I'm not talking about just mounting it on the dash using a mounting kit...but actually putting the tablet in place of the factory screen that displays all factory infos...or putting in place of where factory radio controls are. I was just thinking this bcus my car doesnt have the nav package...so i was gonna use my tab or phone but doesnt want anything that i constantly have to remove whenever im not using...but also wanted it to be factory info and control friendly.

Lightbulb Android HU

A double-DIN Android head unit might be a better option. I really like the one I recently installed in my C6Z (thread here) and may eventually pursue similar for my G.

I wouldnt mind replacing the whole factory head unit with an android head unit if factory unit was an one piece unit...but I have the controls on the bottom and a display on top. Plus I wanna keep the factory info that displays on the screen.

aich's thread explains how to convert the stock RGBS video signal to a format the head unit video input can use for display of that factory info, and if the stock buttons are on a resistance ladder, then the head unit can recognize them, too.

If you want to add Navigation, check out this mod by a company called NAV-TV:

NAV-TV Corporation: NTX-Nissan/Infiniti Garmin Navigation kit with Touchscreen

It's a bit expensive, but the Garmin navigation unit is pretty nice - better than the stock Infiniti nav, in my opinion.
