Hello all - My back up camera is breaking my *****! So I really hope someone might have some advise on this camera issue.
The video signal from my backup camera started to go all fuzzy, like an old TV that is losing it's analog signal from a transmitter and eventually stopped working altogether, giving me just a black screen with the parking guide lines still overlayed. So I swapped the camera and it seemed to be fine, but then that same day started to act up too in the same way. So, I thought maybe the camera controller module is the fault, and while I was in Japan recently I managed to source a replacement unit, but it made zero difference so its not that.
The fuzzy picture gets worse in low light situations, so during the day the image is ok - still has some glitches but useable. At night the image is screwed. I will attach a video of me covering up the camera to recreate the issue - pic of inside the trunk too.
I have checked the wiring in the trunk lid, the flexy tube thing etc and have followed the wiring loom in as far as I can up to the back seats and nothing seems to be frayed or broken. I have jiggled all the wiring I can access and it neither improves or worsens the image - note the guidelines are always on screen and seem stable.
It's obviously got something to do with when the camera is dealing with low light situations that is causing this problem, but what that could be is beyond me and I'm really hoping someone else experienced this and managed to solve it.
My car is the Japanese Nissan Skyline 370GT, so it has some minor differences to the G37 but its essentially the same - for example mine has a camera mounted in the passenger wing mirror to aid with parking near a kerb etc and that is working flawlessly.
I've had my 22 Frontier for 2 months now. Thanks for pointing out that it has a camera, never knew that until now as I was to busy looking in the mirrors when backing up.
It seems to me your issue almost has to be either the signal or power wires running from the AV head unit to the camera. And the most likely fail point would be where those wires pass through the "flexy tube thing" (good name) because that's where they get bent back and forth over and over again for the life of the car. I'm guessing the actual signal wire is a "coax" type - one conductor surrounded by a shield - so it might not be obvious by looking at that cable if the center wire is failing. I think you may need to set up some way to test continuity of both the power wire and signal wire (plus shield) from the head unit to the camera. And maybe open and close the trunk while you're testing it.
Nice ride and we're all jealous that you have those extra JDM features.

thanks for the reply.
I don’t think it’s the “tube thing”, as jiggling that about does nothing to the signal and the same with opening and closing the lid. I wish it was that as it would be an easy enough fix, but because the behaviour changes depending on the light conditions I really think it’s something else. I did a continuity test and that was normal.
