Yes. I have this cable and it charges the iPod/iPhone while video is playing. It may require the 10W power adapter to charge, though (I've never used it without the power adapter). If that's the case, you could always get a small DC/AC converter and plug the adapter into it.
All I really want is to play my ipod in the car, make sure it charges, and all functionality is usable in the car via steering wheel and the front dash controls. Is it just best to get the OEM ipod cable or the Apple composite av cable? Thanks once again!

With the Apple composite av cable, can you control it from the steering wheel?

I have an iPhone 4 and iPod Nano. I dont like using the iPhone, cause I have to unhook everytime I get out of the car. I just charge the Nano, and keep it pluged in all week.
By the way, how do I get shuffle to work w/o doing it on the iPod?

DC Outlet-->DC/AC Converter-->Apple Power Adapter-->USB Cable-->iPod-->RCA Cables-->Vehicle Audio/Video Input
So as mentioned above, there's no input to the iPod from the head unit, so you can't change tracks via the head unit. With this setup, you can, however, play music through your head unit and charge your iPod. You'll just have to change tracks directly on the iPod.
Personally, I would buy whatever cable is necessary to control the iPod through the head unit. I didn't realize how much of an upgrade the 2010+ head units were from the '08-'09s. Standard USB port FTW.

Not sure .... I always have my ipod set to shuffle when I plug it in and then leave it. That's how I listen to the ipod almost all of the time.
