Smile 225/45/17 on an 09 G37?

Hi,
This is my first post bt i am not new to the form as i have been lurking here for a few months. I need to replace my tires on the stock 17's and wondering if i can use 225/45/17 instead of 225/55/17 tires in the wheels. I want to put Michelin PSS and unfortunately they are only available in the 225/45 series for 17' so im wondering if i can use them with our any issues. Appreciate any inputs you can provide.

You can use them but your speed and mileage will be off.

At 60 mph actual, your speed will read ~65. Your odometer will accumulate miles faster. Ride quality might suffer too because you've decreased overall sidewall height by ~45mm ~1 3/4" . Handling should improve though. Wheel gap will be larger.

Not too many performance tires in that size.

If you have to have the PSS you'll need to go to a larger wheel. The sizes you listed will put you 7% different than your stock sizes, like Jsolo mentioned your speedo will be way off and this will probably have a bad effect on your traction control and ABS sensors. When looking for a different tire size you need to keep your new tire within 3% of your OEM tire diameter. If you want to look at another summer tire look for a 245/50/17, the extra width will give you better road holding and traction and still work OK w/ your stock rim width. 225 widths are awfully narrow for a 300+ hp car, and the stock tires are a horrendous joke for such a car. You'll have a huge grin when you dump them

Thanks much for the inputs, i guess ill drop the idea of upgrading the tires and look at upgrading the wheels first.

Check the wheel marketplace here & G35DRIVER.COM - INFINITI G35 (SKYLINE) FORUMS, GALLERY, CHAT, AND MORE. might be able to find some coupe 19" wheels w/ decent tires for a nice price. Now that would be a huge upgrade

Oh, and BTW, welcome to the site
