How reliable are the stock S rims?

I have a question for the people who own a g37s AT coupe. I've been deciding weather to go with the sedan or the coupe. If i get the coupe i'd go with the sport package and AT. Will the tires rub if lets say i have 3 or 4 other passengers? i know the back can only seat 2 but i'm sure if the passengers are skinny 3 is np. So lets say you have 4 other friends in the coupe including you which makes 5 and lets say everyone is 160-170 pounds, how would the tires/rims, and stock sport suspension react? like would the suspension get even more stiff and will it rub if you were going lets say 45mph and hit a bump or small pothole. I'm asking this because friends usually ask me for a ride and i live in new york city Queens so the roads here aren't that good. The sedan with the S package has 18inch rims but the coupe has 19inch rims so i'm curious.

I actually just got back from NYC (got me some chicken and rice ) potholes and road imperfections are abundant and made me nervous. I would not recommend driving around the city with 19's but people do it.

Most people buy coupes so they dont have to carry people but 3 friends is the max you could carry. The back seat does not have a middle, just a piece of plastic ( i guess a 4th is possible if you want them to suffer

but I have had 3 friends in my car and I have the sport package. No rubbing or and issues with them while driving.

bottom line, if your going to be carrying a lot of friends all the time, get the sedan.

you can drive with 19's in the city, i'm just saying it's more risky. you are more prone to hitting a pothole and popping a tire or causing a bubble. The chances of your rim cracking are slim; OEM rims are very strong.

Unless you plan on lowering your car and/or riding with 3 or 4 HUGE people you wont even come close to rubbing. Have you noticed the ridiculous 2 inch wheel gap?

If you hit a pothole fast enough thats deep enough, it wont matter if you have 19" or 16" rims. My wife hit a pothole in her RAV4, with 17" rims and I think a 55 profile tire and it slightly dented her rim. The pothole was huge and it was on a 50 mph road.

As long as you drive normally, and dont speed into potholes, you will be fine.

+1. Rubbing will not be a problem. OEM specs are designed to handle 4 fatties in your car and subs in the trunk.

Also, OEM rims are very strong and the OEM tires arent aggressive. If they were constantly having a problem blowing out or problems with potholes, they would change the OEM specs.

Of course you might have your once in a blue moon situation, but for the most part you will be ok.

I think the more important deciding question should be if you are constantly traveling with people in your car, is it more convenient for you to have a sedan over a coupe? I wouldnt be worried about the wheel diameter differences or if I was going to rub on the stock setup.

I dont understand posts like these. I mean these are factory wheels, they are as good as it gets for daily driving. We are not talking a Ferrari it's a G37... If it came with the car it can handle anything you can throw at it.

.....provided you dont drive 80 mph into large potholes.

I would say the stock setup will be able to handle anything you throw at it using good judgment and under normal driving conditions. Otherwise, it wouldnt be the stock setup.

The S rims are very strong. I've hit some big a$$ potholes where I thought for sure my rim was cracked, and I didn't even have a scratch.

The oem 19 sprort wheels are made by enkei and very strong however I never suggest hitting a pothole if it's avoidable. It terriable for any cars wheel alighnment especially lowered on sport suspension.

If you are planning to carry that many people don't bother with the coupe, get the sedan with sport package. 5 people in a car is a little tight and I would never put that many in my coupe. If you want to carry people you should check out an suv. Or cross over like maurano or fx. My mom just bought a maurano. Very nice, spacious and quality.

The wheels will hold just fine. If you already know you're gonna be jammin your friends into your car, then get a sedan not a coupe.

The stock S rims are NOT reliable in Queens NY.

They won't rub, they won't crack, they won't break.

They just won't be there one morning when you wake up...

+1 on that. i've read so many threads on here where people from NY/NJ wake up to a rimless car.

LOL good point.

I went ahead and replaced my stock wheels with tank tread. Have not had a problem since.
