How Common Is It For Flip Motors to Both Break?

Hi everyone,
I had my car wrapped. When I got it back it was beeping. So I knew it had to do with the top. Finally tried to open the trunk but it wouldn't open. We were able to pry it open enough to see the two flip motors hanging down. I told the guy who wrapped my car and he said he opened the trunk and looked at them but decided not to put the top down to help with the wrap. Anyway, I took the car to the dealer and they said both motors were stripped and the cost to replace is over $7000! The people who did the wrap won't take responsibility for it so I am taking them to small claims court for $5000 (the max allowed). The reason I am posting this is I am looking for feedback about how often these motors both break at once? I was always too lazy to clean out my trunk so didn't put the top down to often but I did buy the car used. I've had it for three years and I am sad to say have probably put it down 5 times. I think the wrap people tried to put the top down when doing the wrap with all the stuff in the trunk and ran into trouble, opened the trunk and the flip motors came down because of their error. I spoke with the dealer and he said it is possible for them to both break at once but not likely. However he won't write anything up that I can present in court. I have a 2012 G37. If there are any professionals out there that can write me a letter for court about this that would be great! However all feedback is important to me. I go to court Tuesday, June 1st. Thanks for much for your feedback!

Are you referring to the OEM plastic gears? Replacement Flipper Gears

You may want to reach out to member Guy Menard. He knows these flippers very well and may be able to answer your questions.

You can either send him a private message, user @Guy Menard or through his contact email in the post I referenced above.

Good luck...
