Service engine soon light

I took my car to the dealer cause it was making a noise, they said it was the alternator and wanted 1k to fix. So I just did it myself. Now the “service engine soon” light came on, anyone know why? I had
to disconnect some electrical stuff so maybe that’s why? Does anyone know what this is or how to shut it off?

Thanks

Need to pull the code, go to most part stores and they can pull the code for you for free. Don't just disconnect the battery and hope the code doesn't reappear, best to identify what code or codes have been triggered.

You could also buy your own code reader. I bought a cheap one off Amazon or eBay or something for $15 shipped. It's not fancy. It only tells you the code, it doesn't even tell you the code definition, you have to look that up in the book that comes with it or on Google, but at least you know. It will also let you properly clear the codes.

That would save you from having to go to the auto parts store every time you get a CEL.
