What is this part?
What is this part?
So, I'm a new owner of a used 2013 manual g37 sport. I'm about a week in, and the jury is out, but I think I'm going to like this car just fine. The first drive home from the dealership resulted in a clutch failure on the interstate, which was absolutely no fun, but they flushed the fluid in the hydraulics per a dealer notification, and things seem to be okay now. Flash to this evening: I drove into my parking space to find this lying on the ground. It seems obvious that it fell off of my car, but I couldn't spot where it fell from to try to reattach it. On the back of the part, it says "8791 " and "R" (presumably, it's the right side of the car that it needs to be reattached to). Any ideas?
Welcome to the site!
Looks like the mirror cover, check the back sides of both mirrors, it should just snap back in unless some prongs are damaged.
Good Luck w/ your new G, hopefully you won't have any more issues.

I am going to assume that their is no way that you could not see your side mirror cover missing..(unless you were drunk)....and deduct that you ran that over and somehow it got stuck to the underside of your car later falling off ....8791 appears to be the side view mirror covers on some Toyota cars.

Ha....I'm sure I would have noticed it before long! But, yeah, it was the mirror casing. When I found the part, I walked around the car 3 times, looking on the lower part of the body and the undercarriage - just didn't bother to look up high enough to see the mirror. So, it snapped right back on without a problem, and we're back in business. No idea what would have caused it to detach in the first place, but I appreciate the quick and accurate responses.

Hahaha - thanks. I swear, I've studied the angle on that photo, and for the life of me, I can't nail down what the white item in question is! I'm gonna say it was just mail that was on the table, or maybe my rice cooker.....or a ghost!
Here are some photos from the lot before I closed the deal. I went with the coupe. I test drove the sedan, and loved it, but I've always leaned toward 2 door cars for myself - no wife or kids or regular passengers, so it works for me. I haven't ever been much of a modder, but who knows? I may find something to tinker with one of these days.

Black is the best! great buy! Carmax is a great place to buy because your guaranteed against wrecks and flooding. You also have what I think is 5 days to return the car ...so keep that in mind in case more things start to fall apart. I had a friend who worked there and they do a very complete inspection in confirming that the car has never been wrecked or flooded... so you should be in great shape!
Did you pay around 28k+?
Dealing with Carmax was easily the smoothest car purchase I've had, and they'll definitely be my first stop for any used car I'm looking to purchase in the future. They were super easy to deal with, and helped me locate the car I wanted and shipped it in from one of their out-of-town lots for no additional charge. You're exactly right on the price - $27,998 before tax. There was only one previous owner and low mileage - 23K. It was a leased vehicle that was returned to the Infiniti dealership at the end of the lease. It sat on their lot for a few months and then Carmax purchased it through an auction. No wrecks, and no significant damage - just a couple of normal wear and tear scuffs. Apart from the surprise clutch issue, which really panicked me the night of the purchase, everything seems to be in order. It turns out that was a known issue with a dealer bulletin, so there doesn't appear to be anything to worry about. How the mirror cover detached remains a mystery, but at least I didn't lose it on the road somewhere. I'm still confident it was a good buy and will serve me well for many years.
