Ebay Test Pipes

Ok I'll be the guinea pig here. I bought an OBX resonated test pipes off ebay. They were $175 shipped which is a lot better than $500 plus. I just couldn't justify the higher priced ones considering it's just a pipe. If these fail or suck oh well. I'll try to sell them. So here is a pre-install review.

Shipping cost was $25 from Cal and took over 7 days. Kinda long in my opinion but what are you gonna do.... Oh yeah leave neg feedback on ebay. lol
Box what pretty beaten up but contents looked ok. The quality I suspect is not as good as the far more expensive brands but for $175 they don't look too bad. They came with defoulers to fool the O2 sensors. Hopefully they work. They worked on a TL I owned that I installed precat deletes on (aka test pipe). Also included was gaskets and bolts for both sides. So here are a couple of pics. I'm not sure when I will be able to install these. Weekends are booked for a few weeks right now.

I installed cheaper Megan Racing test pipes and so far they're fine. I have an exhaust leak, so I plan on replacing the gaskets and making sure the flanges are perfectly flat. I think the main reason they are leaking is I didn't get the bolts tight enough. My fault.
The MR test pipes also do not come with hardware, so I had to piece it together. Still glad I didn't pay out the butt for test pipes!

How do you like them? I'm planning on getting some ... You have an exhaust too or running stock?

The end result is mixed. I believe they perform just as good as the higher name brand units. Fitment was ok but could have been better. I don't think I have any leaks. Also they came with angled o2 defoulers and I do not have any codes. They do have a very slight amount of rasp but it's really not bad. Other than test pipes I am completely stock intake and exhaust. It's about 10-15% louder. More noticeable in above 4k rpms. They also passed the wife test for loudness. She hasn't made a comment at all. I do believe we lose a good amount of low end torque. For this reason I may be taking them off. Should be for sale soon.

I've had the megan test pipes for a over a year now and they've gone through 2 sets of stock gaskets.I ordered Z1 solid copper gaskets and fixed that problem for a couple months. They're still leaking from the test pipe to catback connection but thats from the flange not being perfect. but for the money i'm not that upset about them. sounds a little raspy but with the tru dual exhaust. It gives it a sexy exotic note and very loud at WOT

I took off the the test pipes and sold them. I just didn't think the gains were worth it. I've also tried a alxe back exhaust. This made the car too loud and I didn't feel any increase in power. They sounded and looked cool though. I am completely stock now. I may try a cold air intake but am thinking these cars do not take to mods well. I'm not about to waste 10k on FI.
