Tanabe vs Optional Sport muffler
actually thinking about going back to OEM mufflers.
had berk HFCs for two years now. unless there's some strange interaction between the HFCs and mufflers, the HFCs are not the issue.
Berk HFCs installed 6/09
Motordyne M370 installed 6/11
Tanabe Medalion installed 7/11

I just have the tanable axle back and while it should not sound like a hopped up $5K honda I am not happy. I love the VQ sound but you don't buy a axle back to make hp, you do it for the sound. Way mellow. No rasp, no drone AT ALL, but you have to "listen" for the sound vs. stock. I had a buddy do some driveby while I stood in the driveway and while you can hear a slight diff, it does not sound like a perfomance system imo AT ALL. However, under a wot at the upper R's is about the only time you know you spent $600 on amazon! But with an intake (any open filter brand) comes alive as in 1+1 =3 on most of the car I have heard and driven in.
so now I'm running with HFCs, XYZ w/ resonator, stock mid pipe (Tanabe mid pipe ordered) and Medalion exhaust. 2-3K rpm seems close to my original setup (HFCs and stock exhaust) but with a little performance loss at times. 3k+ rpm is a definite improvement.
sound-wise, 2-3k rpm is loud and low. 3k+ screams.

Thank you all for the feedback. I am still not sure what I want to do yet. I have been looking at different catbacks but I really cant see myself paying $1300+ on an exhaust which is why I wanted to go this route but performance wise it might be worth it. I have a 67 Pontiac Firebird as well and payed $500 for a custom header back system, why can't my g be as cheap as American muscle? Lol. Any suggestions on the best value catbacks available.
