How much $ to replace Cat and Y pipe?
How much $ to replace Cat and Y pipe?
Hey,
So, I went to a dealership to look at a 08 G37s Auto.
Everything checked out on the car fax but I know they take it in to the infiniti dealer to do some work before selling it so i asked for that work order.
It has a line item which says there is hole in the Cat and left Y pipe that needs to be worked on/repair.
I asked him and he wasn't sure what it was and I called the Infiniti dealer, and the guy who worked on the car is on vacation.
Anyone have any idea, what it would cost to get it fixed/replace? (It's not covered)
Thanks for your help!

well, you could probably buy a stock y pipe from someone on the forums who has replaced their exhaust. i am keeping mine, but i'm sure there may be someone who can sell it to you on the cheap.
as for cats... just buy yourself a set of HFCs and call it a day. install is pretty easy, but if you aren't mechanically inclined, it shouldn't cost much to install at a shop.
although, if you decide to get an after market exhaust just go HFC and cat-bak exhaust of choice.

OEM Cat - $700 each new from dealership. not sure how much for used.
OEM Y Pipe - $650 new from dealership or $150 used
Labor - 2-3 hours at $100-120/hour at dealership rates
Y pipe you can do yourself if you have jacks or ramps. I would not try to replace the Cats yourself.

I just spoke to another guy who took a look at the car.
He said that the Cat are ususaly covered but since this was external damage it would not be.
He said that it was hit really hard,Twice and so was the Y-Pipe and quoted me 2800 to get it replaced.
I gather that this is why the car was sold to auction -> dealer in the first place.
They came down to 25K for the car and it's fully loaded Nav,S,Prem,90%tire,Brakes.
With the following damage is it worth it to buy it?

Thanks guys, I wont be going back.
It's a non Infiniti used car dealer. He didn't tell me that this problem was there, I found out because I insisted on seeing the Infiniti service records they got right after they bought it and there was a note about it.
I called the Infiniti service center and the guy there was the one who went into detail about the issue.
It's so hard to find a decent G37 in California! All the posts are either by shady dealers or way too many miles + $$.
If you know anyone with a good G37 coupe, let me know. I'll pay $ for a good car.
