drewfinity's OBX Luxury Sport Sedan.

Sport Luxury? Luxury Sport?

Who cares? I used to drive a semi, everything is more luxurious and more sporty.

My previous vehicles were a '04 Mazda 6 2.4L, an '03 Wrangler X (4.0L), and an '02 Jaguar X-Type 3.0. An odd selection of vehicles, but they were what I wanted (and greatly enjoyed) at the time, with the exception of the Jag which just the best option of a limited selection in a difficult situation.

But a move and a new job (and a desperate need to get rid of that POS jag) gave me the opportunity to get something new. I've liked the looks and style of these cars for quite awhile, and when looking around, I really liked the Wheat interior with the premium wood trim. Sexy and Sophisticated.

So traded the POS in on a 2010 Obsidian Black X sedan with 53k on the clock.

Pretty:

So what are my goals with this car?

Well, I want to keep skirting the edge between sport and luxury, but leaning more on the luxury side in terms of ride/comfort. I want to be able to take this car for long road-trips and keep myself and my wife comfortable, while also having something that can cut through traffic with ease and make my wife nervous every once in awhile.

With that in mind, the mods I'll do will be geared towards cosmetics while trying to maintain and/or improve the ride quality. Coilovers and lowering springs are likely out. Sways maybe, but I'm hesitant it if reduces ride quality. (seems like it does, a little bit.)

Wheels/Tires will probably be the biggest (and most different) direction that I'll go counter to the rest of the folks on the board. I have the stock 17s on now, and at best I'll go up to 18s - nothing larger. Additionally, when I save up the dough I'll be going for Grand Touring tires, and not High Performance All-Seasons. Why? The difference in ride quality is huge (IME), while the drop in performance metrics isn't enough to concern me - I'm not going on the track.

That doesn't mean I don't want to keep the sporty aspects, or even bump em up a notch. Along with cosmetics like the trunk lip spoiler and front chin spoiler, I foresee R2C intakes in my future, and possibly some exhaust work (as long as it's not obnoxious, looks sexy, and doesn't drone at cruising speeds).

So for my first trick, I installed a Ex3 roof spoiler after reading so much about it from Rochester and others. It's not much, but it's a first step, and I think it looks pretty damn nice

Before:

After:

I have a midnight black grille on the way that I snatched up for a good price here on the forums.

Currently on the To Do list:

Front Chin
Rear Trunk Lip
R2C Intakes

On the 'Maybe' list
GT-R pushbutton?
" Dome light lens swap?
Sways?
Exhaust?
Headlight work?

Nice intro to your build thread Drew, look forward to seeing this come together for you.
Sounds like you're keeping a level head w/ the mods you're planning. If you need a hand w/ wheel ideas give a shout.

Thanks for the support!

I've been trying to price out/find side skirt options. OEM sport skirts look like they'll cost about $550, unless I can find them used somewhere - and I've heard that I need the OEM sport mudflaps to make them work correctly too, so I'm thinking that's not a good option.

I've seen a few other aftermarket options but I don't know that they'll look nice with the front chin, and if it's going to cost me $$$ to get them painted/installed, I may as well go with the OEM sport skirts...

Got the Midnight Grille in via UPS yesterday, took about 40 minutes to put it on today. Looks nice!

Trying to decide what to do next... R2C intake? Rear OEM spoiler? Front Chin? Argh!

Added front/rear WeatherTech wind deflectors - dark smoke color.

Poor quality cellphone pic in gun-in-mouth weather.

Got a great deal on some all-weather floor-mats - $50 shipped.
Description said they were gray, but either my eyes are bad or they're black. (!)

Still, for $50 I'm really not going to complain, and now that I've got them in the G I think they actually look pretty snazzy - it gives the car a sense of depth.

Nice score! I've always liked the OEM all weathers for our G.
