6MT question, is this normal?
Alright so I don't think this is normal but hey who knows. When I'm in 6th, any speed, when I let off the throttle the shifter pops up a bit (toward 5th gear). Doesn't pop out of gear, just a little 1/4-1/2 inch movement that I wasn't expecting. I come from a t56 magnum and I never had that happen before so it doesn't seem right to me. Also is the throwout bearing on these normally that loud? I drove 3 before I bought this one and you could hear it at idle on all 3. Not loud but still audible. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mine makes noise at idle, too. Particularly noticeable when you're idling next to other cars in a parking lot, or in the garage or against a wall. Been like that forever.
As for the shifter popping forward from 6th to 5th...
Never experienced that before.

Alright, well at least that answers the throwout bearing question. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will say something like "oh yeah, that's just this". A guy can dream right, lol.
As for the other question I think it's the flywheel that makes the noise. Almost like a tractor/18 wheeler.not sure if you know what I'm talking about but that is normal as well. If you think the noise you hear is different please let us know as it may be something different.
I figured it would be the throwout bearing as the sound pretty much dissappears when you press the clutch. Soon as it's loaded up on the pressure plate it's fine. You let out on the clutch in neutral and then you can hear it spinning on the input shaft. Probably makes noise in all the other gears too but when you're moving it isn't noticeable.

hope this eases your mind a bit of any issues you may think you have🤟

Things like this can really get under your skin, if you let it. It's also a valid reason why not to get a LW flywheel, as much as I think I'd enjoy it.

The noise you're hearing is common and it comes from your clutch area, certain times it's the dual mass flywheel other times it's the CSC.
As for 6th, remember that 6th is the highest loaded gear and many times a disconnect (clutch in or deceleration) will jerk the drive line from a decent load to none.
This jerk depending on the condition of your driveline rubber components can be excessive and if it is it can cause the popping out of gear.
You also have to take into consideration internally, 2nd gear is one of the most abused gears in most manual cars which means any wearing of forks and components on upwards or downward gears can affect those in that row as well.
If you're not having to over compensate for other downward gears like 2nd or 4th then most likely you have excess play in mounts/bushings that is causing this.
A good way of seeing this is to pay attention to a power shifted 2nd gear and try to record/watch the shifter as the car is trying to lay the power down, some shifters act like baby vibrators and others like mangling monsters
Get your rubbers straight (no pun intended
) and I believe you wont have this issue.
