Question about 5AT shifting in normal mode
One thing I dont like about this auto transmission, is that after you just accelerate, then hold your speed, the transmission takes a while to up shift. Thats fine when its in DS mode. I dont like it in standard mode. It should upshift immediately after letting up on the throttle.
My old I30 trans handled this perfect. I like the way it shifted. This G feels like it has a ford taurus transmisssion or something. Can this effect be programmed out or something? Or do I just need an updated flash? Or do I just have to get used to it?
Does the 7AT do this too?
Please no 6MT comments, I wanted AT.

I30 was a luxury car too.
Its not about the shift hardness, it lags in the lower gear way to long when you let up. Then it shifts. As soon as you back off the throttle on a half hearted acceleration, it should shift up immediately. Right?

Two ways you communicate with the trans.
1. How far you press the accelerator.
2. How fast you got to that point.
The transmission reacts in real time to what you tell it but also to the enviroment. If you're going up hill or cornering it will hold a power gear.
Even if you're in D and you get on it and then cruise it will hold a power gear but not for long.
You want a luxury car put it in D and drive it like one. Slow gradual accelerator increases. You want a sports coupe, put it in DS preferably and again drive it like one, fast guns agressive accelerator.
As far as learning your drivng style.. that's an option only available to the owners that believe they have that capability. Mine doesn't learn shiet... it just does what I tell it to and the mic is the accelerator pedal.

So, is it possible to get an aftermarket programmer to make it upshift quicker in "D" mode? Or do I need to stop accelerating hard in D? This does not seem right. Especially when my 150K mile I30 shifted correctly. It only had one mode. It should upshift when you back off the throttle after accelerating. Thats how auto tranmissions work.
Does this trans have torque sensing or something goofy that is causing this?
Do you think that grounding kit could fix this?

You might want to give GTM a call. I've heard good things about their reflash for the auto tranny, or you may even want to look into the valve body they sell.
I don't think a ground kit fixes crap except in peoples head... but that's just me
. If you THINK it fixes something, then that's all that matters.
I do chuckle about people paying $80+ for $20 in parts you can do yourself.

So yes don't get agressive with the throttle and you should notice smooth undetectable gear changing as good as luxury car performance.
Whip it around and be ready for 4 seconds of grear holding until it realizes you wimped out and are cruising.
A few people have noticed this moving from a luxury sedan to Infiniti's idea of a luxury sport coupe. Part of being sportier is that it does hold power gears... what you're not liking is actually a feature, there's nothing to fix but your expectations for the car's genre.

I was thinking that too. As well as this car is engineered, you would think they would get the grounding right. You learn that in the first electrical class you take in HS. Anyway some of these ground kits dont seem right. You are supposed to tie all grounds to a single point, not run cables all over the place. Star method, not daisy chain. Daisy chains cause ground loops which could add noise to the system. So, I wouldnt be suprised if the change they are noticing is worse performance. lol
Exactly, also even in D you can use the paddle shifters, the difference is they'll time out and return to D. In DS mode use of the paddles will move you to to manual mode and it stays there until you reset by moving to D.
