How many miles do you have on your G? 1 quart every 3k seems like a lot with that oil. That alone would keep me from using 0W40. I probably haven't burned an entire quart in +200k miles, on the Maxima that is. I haven't burned any oil yet on the G, only 70k, but I don't anticipate it would/will be much.

G37sPhoton, I think you'll be golden with 5w-30. Amsoil seems like a good brand, but so expensive. I think most people on here use Mobil 1 Full Synth, Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra Platinum, Amsoil, etc... There is a poll on here that shows what everyone uses.

I currently have about 110,000 miles on the car. On my next oil change, I plan to go back to 5W30 and compare on the oil consumption. I didn't have it before when I started with 5W30, only on 0W40. I don't know if the thinner cold weight slips through the rings and gets burned before the engine full warms up or what. But I should be doing my oil change in the next week or so. 120 mile daily commute makes be do oil changes often sadly, so I try to push the oil as far out as I can through UOS.

I attached two of my UOS so you can read the comment they wrote back with. You can't wrong with either weight.

thanks for the info panda; the data points look good on both as mentioned but as good as 0w40 is , maybe 5w30 will fit the bill and as you said cant go wrong with either based on those results; thanks

same here, at least to this point, no oil burned though i have been a religious 3-3500k oci, so maybe lucky or that had something to do with it, but yes agree that the 5w30, specifically Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra Platinum will be my selection ..Amsoil is good, but a bit pricey as I still plan on short oci's so it may not warrant the extra $$ ; thanks man, this is great info and helped a lot

my $0.02....I'm past 175,000 miles (about 282000 kms) I have always just used a full synthethic no special high mileage variant, I used royal purple for years then switched to Redline 5w 30 about 80k ago or so...the redline makes the valve train very noticeably quieter and I have never burned/leaked any oil with either...my OCIs have always been quite short so that probably makes the actual oil choice less relevant....I have the M110s in my garage as my wifes care uses them but I've always stuck with the M-108s as I didnt want to cause an issues with oil pressure or anything (probably not even a valid concern), with short OCI's I'm not sure even the filter matters too much...the only preference I have is for the oil that gives me the quiter valve train...sometimes i'm surprized at how quiet the car is being so old and with such high mileage that its possible that it can run so quiet lol

Hey Hashim- thanks and yes, after much reading , it seems with shorter ocis a number of other factors become less relevant and that is a good thing for me. I do see where brands are swapped around until a satisfactory blend is found etc by the user, so as i have only used synth blend m1 5w30, sort of got the it works so why change it, but like the idea of a quieter valve noise, so adding RP to the list of must tries...reading your post at 175k, I still have a decent amount of oil changes and brands to try out..
also, did read about the larger filter and pressure but not sure entirely either, but good food for thought..thanks

no prob, and I agree no point in changing if it works on short OCIs, but just to be clear in case you do try it down the line, the Redline is the quieter oil not the RP...I wouldn't bother with the RP over what you're using now at all...

Mobile 1 synthetic, plain Jane type 0w30 winter, 5w30 summer. Napa gold filters only.

Change about every 3k or 6mo (seasonal change) which ever is first and kids allow. At about 3500 I can start hearing the lifters tick more than I like... can’t see going beyond that.

One day ill pull a blackstone, but lazy.

I'm a bit late to this thread but I use Amsoil signature series and change every 9-10k miles.
Oil is fine and car runs great (still only at 70k miles though).
My friend has a 4runner with 200k+ miles who swears by the Amsoil signature series.
