High Mileage Question...

I probably already know the answer, but screw it... I'll ask it anyway.
My leased (25k/annual) '09 G37x currently has 44k miles on it currently, by the time my lease is up I'll have 80k (39mo). So far, no problems, knock on wood. If it continues to be as reliable I'm considering buying it out for my wife who only drives about 10-12k a year. Do you guys believe that they're as reliable as Nissan's usually are? If so, well kept, is it possible for it to reach 200k? It'd be nice to have one less car payment

My first car was a 300xz and I got 175k out of her, My '88 Maxima, 225k, and my '01 Pathfinder which I gave to my parents is at 140k. Except for the 300xz, I never had any serious issues with either cars. My previous car before the G was a 335i, it was in for service so often that this question never even reared itself in my mind during the term.

With proper maintenance and upkeep, there's little doubt your G37 sedan will reach and exceed 200K. Infiniti features robust engineering throughout their line and unless your wife is racing the G, your biggest expenditures will be gas, tires and brakes. Come to think of it, those will still be your biggest expenses even if your wife DOES race it! LOL

^ I wouldn't worry too much just follow the maintenance intervals.

How much did you have to pay for that 25k yearly mileage limit? I don't think I've ever heard of such a high limit. Bet the residual will be pretty low, but your monthly lease payment must be pretty high. Your G should go 200k assuming you use a synthetic oil and do your scheduled maintanance.

Oops, I'm sorry. My lease is actually at 20k/yr. I pay $746/mo (39mo) that includes PA's 10% lease tax and an extra $3700 I applied towards getting out of my BMW lease.

Nothing wrong with synthetic except cost....
I have had a lot of Japenese cars run well over 200K miles (320K on my camry) and never used synth oil.....

200K should be easy (I hope).

I was thinking the same. I wanted to keep my car. i have 12k/year(39 month) and i'll have 1 year left this april. I'll only have about 15,000 miles by april and about 25,000 by end of lease term.
Since its so low mileage, I dont think its worth returning. I was thinking of keeping it and driving it to about 150,000 miles and keep it for a longgg time.(just for the hell of it) But idk i'm starting to get alot of dents and stuff on it. So i was thinking of returning it and getting a new car.
But on the other hand if I get a new car, it will also get dented.
I can't help the dents and stuff. My college parking lot is way to crowded to find secluded parking spot unless i park in the garage all the way across campus. and plus sometimes i parallel park when I go out and thats pretty tight too. Parking here is a d***. Cars are so close together everywhere (college parking lot, shopping mall parking lot, store parking lot, street parking...)

Oh well, still have a year to think about.

It is a Nissan.

Nissan is generally less reliable than Toyota, Honda and Subaru. As is the badge-only "Infiniti" that we pretend is not just a Nissan with a decent amount of options.

If you drive that many miles and you're payments are that high, why didn't you just buy the car from the beginning? You're total payments for the lease will be almost $30K, that's almost the whole value of the car. It's very unlikely but I hope your residual is around $10K, otherwise you'll loose a lot of money.

For what is worth, Consumer Reports 2010 Car Reliability rankings placed Infiniti 5th overall, behind Scion, Porsche, Acura, and Honda. Within Infiniti, G Sedan AWD is the best model with 40% better than average relaibility, while the worst model is G Coupe, still better than average.

Interesting Fact. Nissan is without a doubt one of the leaders in the reliability catagory for engineering.

I suspect the core mechanical parts of the car will hold up well; not so sure about all of the electronic stuff; there is a lot of expensive complexity.
