Question Dreaded rear timing gasket leak question

Hello, I have a rear timing gasket leak and have seen many comments on here where people say that it messes up their oil pressure, or they get check engine lights, and jerkiness or cutting out of the engine around or above 2.5k rpm. All of this makes me nervous as I have had this leak for a while now, but have not had any of these issues. I know it is the rear timing gasket leak because I can see the oil there and the dealer inspection also confirmed that this was the issue.

My question is, why am I not getting a check engine light, and why haven't I noticed any difference in how the car drives or feels? Thanks for your help. BTW im driving a 2008 g37 Coupe with 92k miles

The rear gallery gasket issue is internal, you won't see that leak. Your leak is different and non-fatal to the engine as long as you monitor oil level and top off as needed.

Thanks for the reply, so for the rear gallery gasket, if that were to go bad would it have already? Or is that just random? Ive seen most of the people who had the rear gallery gasket issue, get it at around 70k-80k miles. Thanks for any clarification as im worried about having to pay $2k+ to have it repaired if the gallery gasket does end up breaking.

Almost everyone with the rear gallery gasket failure reported going into limp mode and getting a CEL with two codes stored. You'll find the codes searching this forum and the Engine, Transmission and Drivetrain forum.

I get the impression the gasket tends to go between 50k and 100k miles. I need to be on the lookout for this...

I'd second Slartibartfast's reply as on the mark for what I've read.

Maybe a member can chime in here? I heard the gasket issue is random and a small percentage of engines? I don't know of anything the motors have in common other than being pre-gasket upgrade vintage, 2008-12? I once asked a long time service adviser about it and he said he didn't see them often, but, he sure knew the symptoms.

Correct. The oil galley gasket leak is internal, you’ll never see it. It causes a random intermittent misfire
that you may never notice and low oil pressure which you won’t notice either until it throws a code. Which isn’t immediate for some reason. The code is only thrown when the pressure is very low. 5 psi maybe?

thanks for your help, hopefully I don't get the gallery gasket failure then. Such a shame I have to worry about that going bad.
