You actually need ~5 1/3 quarts. It's a 5 quart capacity but the oil filter then holds 1/4-1/3 of a quart as well.

Thanks.

Nissan's parts department quote "we use the nissan ester oil on the first oil change, then castrol synthetic after for each additional change" for the 370z.

I called and talked to Infiniti, they told me when they launched the new G37, people were putting whatever oil in the car and they experienced knocking from the engine. Thats what the service manager said he was told from the beginning. They recommend the ester oil on every oil change. For what its worth, I put the nissan ester oil in my car.

Pennzoil Ultra FAQ

14. Has Pennzoil® incorporated any type of Esters into the base oil blend for Pennzoil Ultra™? No ester base oils were used or are required in the Pennzoil Ultra™ range.
Don't bet on PU not having any ester additives. Shell is not going
to tell anyone what is in thier blend or how they derive their base
oils. Note their explicitely specific remarks only state that there
is no ester in their base oil......they make that and only that
perfectly clear.

The data sheets and VOAs indicate a typical natural gas hydro-cracked
Group III base oil.....just another semi-synthetic molecule that
our screwed-up laws allow the oil companies to describe as
a "full premium synthetic"......far from it. BUT that does not mean
that it's not great stuff. More and more it's all about the additves
and the "blend." And who knows for sure? Perhaps Shell has
found a way to synthasize new molecule chains in the refining
processs.....only thing we know for sure is it has alot of
"ester qualities" and that Shell isn't going to tell us what's in it.

On paper it looks like it can take the heat in a VVel application.
Only time will tell.

As the owner of a new 2010 G37xAWD sedan the only oil that will go in mine is from Lubrication Engineers. Without a doubt it is the best oil for the money out there. It is hard to find but will worth it. You can read about it at: Lubrication Engineers, Inc. - Welcome.
Part number 8530. It blows the doors of any other oil out there. After reading about it my dealer is very interested in using it. You do NOT need an ester oil!! Ester is for R134 AC systems.

Ohhhkay, that sounded a little too much like a marketing statement. The fact that the very second thing you posted on this forum is pitching a product also makes me wary of it.

I don't know what an R134 AC system is, and I'm not sure how ester's use in an AC system has anything to do with whether or not it's useful for an automotive engine. We didn't just speculate that the engine needs an ester oil -- that's just what the manufacturer told us.

Intersting stuff, but I just checked and it's only available in bulk.
Also couldn't find one UOA on it. I just reviewed the MSDS and
Technical data they provide. The base stock is highly refined
parifin. It is a semi-synthetic, approximately 70% parifin base.
Flash point of the 8530 (name of the product) is a respectable
435 degrees F. I disagree with your statement....by all indications
and information this oil has ester additives in it. Additionally, their
product information describes a "molecular layer of protection"
directly attached to the metal surfaces"....exactly what any
good ester does and exactly why almost every good oil uses
at least some amount of ester or polyester additives.

Additional thoughts: with no imperical data from this
oil in any performance engine, and plenty of data on
Redline and Motul which both have 50 degree F higher
flashpoints and is readly available for less than $10/quart
Unless you are close to the source and use fleet
volumes of oil why would anyone spend their time and
money on this stuff?

Throw up a VOA and then a 4,000 miles UOA. That will prove if its the best or not.

Data >>>>>> some guys opinion.

Glad to know it's "will" worth it.
