First Oil Change
First Oil Change
I got my G37 in Early October 2008, When should I go bring it in to change the oil? The dealer in Canada is giving me a different first oil change date, compared to what it says in the g37 USA Manual...
I don't mind changing it earlier, as it's been almost 7 months with regular driving and about 2500miles on it... What do you guys think?
It must have been sitting in the dealer lot for quite sometime before as well....
Thanks!

Sitting on a lot has no adverse effect on your oil. I also strongly disagree that it's necessary to change your oil at "break in" mileage as suggested by Blackjack
, that is just wasting your money. The manufacturer nor dealer says this is required or even suggested. Just take it in at the 3750 like the manufacturer suggests. Unless your car has been run really hard, has been in extremely hot conditions, or has been in an environment with lots of sand or dust, it's not necessary to change your oil before recommended change intervals.
There's no way in hell your car was on any lot for a year dude. Look at the plate that tells you the manufacturing date to bear this out.
What did your dealership say regarding the mileage interval for your initial oil change that's different from what the manual says? This is interesting and I haven't heard of a dealership saying to extend the first oil change interval mileage before.
Also, here is a good resource on the subject with people more knowledgeable that you'll find in this forum, including me. It may be a lot of reading to sift through the forums, but you will be educated and stop freaking out about oil changes and get some solid information.

Having said that though, I thought you were supposed to change at 6mo or 3750, whichever came first. I was told that "old oil" is bad, even if your car hasn't been driven lots.
It doesn't totally make sense to me though....I mean, if a car has been on the lot for 6 months, the oil is 6 months old, but it hasn't been driven. Should it be changed?

I think you misunderstood... It's my recommendation. It's absolutely not necessary. And if you change your oil yourself, it's really not that much of an expense... $30-40. It's simply something that I've done on all my cars that I'll continue to do.

Here's my logic: If the car isn't driven, what has happened to the oil in 6 months sitting inside your engine to make it any less effective at lubrication or any more contaminated than it was the day you put it in? Contamination? Break down? How???

Th ONLY reason to change oil is if it is contaminated with particulates or foreign material or if it has chemically changed so that it's not effective at lubricating your engine. Time by itself does neither of those.
If my car had sat mostly undriven for6 months, I might change my filter only, but not the oil. It's a waste IMO. Some people like Ballin' Blackjack said may do it for their own personal peace of mind which you can't put a price tag on, but I don't have that kind of money to blow.
I consider spending $22.50 at Blackstone Labs a better investment. That kind of peace of mind has science behind it and can help me to keep the money in my pocket for an extra 3K, 5K, or more depending on my individiual driving circumstances.$30 - $40 and 20 minutes of someone's time might be a small price for him to pay to have confidence that their investment is well protected. That's cool and to each his own; I used to be that guy who changed every 3K with full synthetic. I got a lot of miles out of those engines without a doubt.
Nowadays I spend oil maintenance money more wisely and I blow my money on more beer!
Lol, my 08 G37 was sitting on the lot for at least a year. Purchased end of Feb 09 and date of manufacture was either 10/07 or 12/07, I forgot. Since I am leasing, I didn't care too much. Now if I was buying outright, I would have given them hell. Only had 33 miles though (7 from the initial Infiniti Test Drive) and I guess the rest to transfer from the original dealer.
hm.. I'm looking at the oil change interval in the 2009 maintenance pdf http://www.infinitiusa.com/pdf/techp...7-Coupe-v2.pdf
and it's saying 3 month or 3750 miles.. what? 3 months???
