When to do an oil change?

So my car is approaching 4000 miles. I need to know the proper mileage to do an oil change. I've heard mixed opinions on doing it every 3000, and I 've heard every 4000 and 5000 as well. So what is the ample mileage to do an oil change? Should I do it at the dealer or anybody has suggestions in the SGV area? Thanks!

Manufacture recommends every 3750 miles. Do what the manufacture suggests. I take mine to the dealership because it is $40 which is the same cost as other places but at the dealership I get free drinks, a nice couch, and a tv to watch while they do the work.

I got a call from my dealer to make an appointment for an oil change. They stated that the oil should be changed every 3750 miles or 3 months. My car is about to hit 3 months old but I only have 1500 miles on my car. Should I bring in my car for oil change or wait till I hit 3750 miles?

Thanks,
Rai

take it a little after 3 months even if not that many miles. Old oil is bad oil too. YOu can stretch it a lil, esp depending on HOW u drive when you do drive it.

But dont go strictly by miles only... its technically whichever comes first.

Anyone know the deal with the special Nissan Ester oil we are supposed to use in our cars.

I was going to get my oil changed at 1,000 miles, but now I'm going to wait for the 3,750 mark. BTW an oil change with that oil is like 107$

Went into my dealer today for my 1st oil change at 1560mi and it was free. They wrote it up as the ITB08-028a for me even though I didn't have any issue. Basically they reflashed the ECM and changed washer/filter and put ester oil. Not bad Infiniti

But if Mobil-1 is fully synthetic, why does it matter if it's old. Like, if you don't drive period, but your oil is 3 months old, why do you have to change it? Will it degrade? The oil that's sitting on the shelf in a store may have been there for a number of months already, no?
