The other day while in a drive thru I heard a weird grinding/squeak/scraping sound coming from the passenger side when I would let off the brake. A few days later im still hearing it, it seems like it only makes the noise when I let off the break or when im going under 10mph. I thought it could be some dust or something trapped in there so I tried a few hard stops to see if thatd do anything but to no avail. Its not a constant sound but sounds like something is scratching when the wheel makes a rotation.

Pads are fine, rotors arent the best but I wouldnt think its them, I just replaced the bearing hub assembly a few months ago, I had a bent brake dust shield on that side so Ill see if its that again.

Just want a few ideas before I take a look at it this weekend, any suggestions are appreciated ;D

 

Sounds like a seized caliper.

But the situation could have different ramifications dependng on the type of brakes. Is it the standard brake setup or the Akeebono (big brakes)?

 

Most likely dragging pad, probably the inside one on the rear. Mine did that a couple years ago. New caliper and pads/rotors were needed for mine.

 

I see, thank you for the reply. I always thought when you have a seized caliper the car pulls when breaking and you can smell something burning. Am I just at the beginning of seized caliper stage or are those symptoms not always going to happen? Would just buying a new caliper be better than trying to repair this one?

Ahh that would suck, did you notice anything else when you had a dragging pad?

 

You could try pulling the caliper and cleaning and greasing the slides.

The scraping/grinding noise, and since my pads were getting low anyway the inside pad was throwing a lot of brake dust into my wheel. Cleaning and lubing things might fix it if you're lucky.
