Trunk latch, rubber bumper replacement
Trunk latch, rubber bumper replacement
I noticed on my G that when I opened the trunk, it would only pop up a little compared to before. I inspected the lower trunk latch and the rubber "bumper" was missing from it. To get this rubber piece, you need to order a new latch assembly. I went ahead and found the part, my VIN called for: 84620-JK00A (Which was replaced by: 84620-JK00B). I found 84620-JK00A on ebay from a junkyard for cheap under $30 shipped. The rubber bushing on it was in perfect condition. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to remove it from the new latch without damaging it. Now installing it can be a bit tricky but 100% doable. I applied a generous amount of Shin Etsu 08798-9013 grease for treating rubber on the conical section of the rubber piece. I then installed it into the latch somewhat sideways with needle nose pliers pinching the sides of the cone until it was in. I then applied another coating of grease on the top and around it. Good to go, simple and easy fix.

Apply lots of grease here as well as in the gap, then pinch the cone section installing it somewhat sideways, rotate the bumper and work it into the latch opening until it is fully installed.
