Is there any way to hook some straps under the trunk door?
More than once now I have had to carry big items and so far I haven't found a place to hook those elastic hooked straps (not sure what they're called) to hold the trunk down. Is there a place for them? It's been a pain to transport big items since I had to use string instead.
This is what I've done on all my cars, haven't had time to check it out on my G. You will be inserting a welded steel ring made of bent "rod" welded into a circle about 2" in diameter (Home Depot or Lowes) into the trunk latch mechanism. The ring needs to be fairly large in diameter so the short part that goes through the latch is close to straight as far as the latch sees it. The trunk lock will snap around it the same way it snaps around the round steel loop it normally latches to near the bumper. When you push the trunk release it should release the ring (put a towel on the rear bumper to avoid scratches when it releases). The bungee cord goes between the ring you temporarily add and the steel loop on the regular latch. Use the bungee cords that have plastic hooks that slide along the elastic cord (HD or Loews) so you can easily tighten/release from outside the trunk. The diameter of the steel ring's "rod" must be the same as or a little smaller than the steel loop's "rod" in the latch (MUST not be bigger in diameter so it does not get stuck). BEFORE YOU DO THIS you need to be sure the trunk release will let go of the ring: (I haven't had time to check this on my G) first push a phillips head screwdriver of the right diameter against the trunk latch until it latches, the screw driver simulates the "rod" that makes up the ring, when you push the trunk release the screw driver should drop out, if not you can pull it out lengthwise and forget this whole concept. Sorry I don't have time to do this with photos.
